 Nissan Outdoor Games
Chamonix hosts the first winter edition of the Nissan Outdoor Games by Colombia.
 The top athletes representing the extreme sports of skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, speed-riding and BASE-jumping will be in Chamonix in February 2008, to dispute the Nissan Outdoor Games by Columbia film and photo competition. After three very successful summer editions, the event which has no fear of anything is now growing and developing on different levels. In a class of its own, this biggest European outdoor event combines the sporting performances of professional athletes with a creative and artistic aspect and blends it all into a festival of film and photography. For five days preceding the event, as a prelude to this fantastic alpine show, the winter games will host about sixty athletes, photographers and cameramen from Europe and the USA to take part in the competition. Their challenge: shooting and editing 20 pictures and a short film, which according to the rules, must be no longer than 5 minutes including a sequence of BASE jumping, paragliding, mountaineering, skiing and snowboarding. Creativity-wise, anything goes… Elected by a jury, the best film will be judged on its photography, its screenplay and the performance of the riders. When it comes to pulling off the biggest moves, these high-level athletes should display the best combination of their disciplines with the Mont Blanc in the background. The real interaction with the public will start on Thursday the 14th of February. The “Games’ Village” in the centre of town will be the place to be for adults as well as kids. A climbing wall, concerts and giant-screen T-V’s will be installed. Just next to this, the public will have the opportunity to put on their crampons and ice-picks and have a go at this fascinating discipline. But that’s not all. The fabulous scenery of Chamonix will be the setting of some aerial shows, which will take your breath away. Everyone will be able to admire the most amazing flying stunts of the paragliders, speedriders and BASE-jumpers. You just have to look up to understand the passion that these fanatics of nature sports bring to their Art. The après-ski show will also take part in the centre of town. On stage there will be presentations of the big stars of the mountain, and their films will be pitted against each other. On Saturday evening, who will receive the “Golden Peak”, the main trophy of the competition? A lot of teams have already applied. Among them Americans, French, Swiss and Germans.
