Natives Challenge Slopestyle
Also billed as "Night Ski", but they really want the lovely snowboarders to come along too.
Fireworks at Fat Face Night Ski The Fat Face Night Ski, in association with Natives.co.uk, made fireworks night at Castleford Xscape an explosive night last weekend. Fully booked in advance, over 300 people took part in the Fat Academy (free lessons), Fat Hour (free skiing/boarding) or the Slopestyle comp – part of the Natives Workers Challenge Race Series. The evening kicked off with Fat Hour, with over 100 lucky people enjoying free skiing & boarding and getting some valuable pre-season practice in. Meanwhile groups of beginners learned how to snowboard on the nursery slope, all courtesy of Fat Face, who treated everyone to free time on the slope. At the same time, almost 100 boarders and skiers were enjoying a jam session in the slopestyle comp. The slide box and the picnic rail were favourites with everyone, and a few brave souls took on a mighty kicker throwing some big moves to impress the judges. After a couple of hours of action, eventually the judges had to make some tough decisions and whittle down the field for the Super Final of just 12 guys and 6 girls. And what a final it was! Pat Sharples, Oakley Team manager and Event MC, was blown away by the sick riding on show: “For the first ever Fat Face Night Ski event, I think it couldn’t have gone any better. It was brilliantly organised, a big turn out of riders and the best prizes I’ve ever seen for a UK comp,” Pat said later. “What made it for me was the standard of some of the riders. We had some of the UK's best talent show up, but it was the finals that they all stepped it up a level. The tricks that were being thrown down were unbelievable. It’s so good to see and can't wait to see it on the DVD when it’s out.” Laura Hill (Female Boarder), Naomi Edmondson (Female Skier), Stu Edwards (Male Boarder) and Joe Tyler (Male Skier) won their categories in the seniors, with Holly Taylor, Amber Connors, Simon Foster and Michael Nur winning respectively in the juniors. Once the comp finished, the party started in earnest, with DJ Rob Solari (who’d flown in from Meribel for the night), seamlessly blending old school house with hip hop and Brit pop. Free Extreme Energy from Extreme Drinks helped everyone keep the pace going, ensuring that everyone will remember the first Fat Face Night Ski for a long time.
