The Sheffield Freeze and NY Sushi Big Bang 7 went off in spectacular fashion up at SSV. Due to an admin error (i.e. my own stupidity) we managed to miss most of the competition, so it was up to SSV to grab someone 'in the know' to gain an insider's view. Luckily we managed to glean an impromptu interview with local superstar, top bloke and, at the time of probing, duty first-aider Rob Yeomans.

Saturday was practice day and perfect weather. Some competitors felt it necessary to practice their beer skills rather than boarding though!

Sunday's competition had a break for the England match at the request of many a competitor! More perfect weather was ordered and it didn't disappoint.

Sunday evening was the Big Bang, with beer, music and frivolities. Things started to get very messy indeed. There were fire-eaters and people spinning flames on ropes on the slope at dusk which made for entertaining watching, even if we were slightly worried they were going to set fire to the snoflex and Paul Cooper's new baby, the rainbow rail!

Onto Monday and many a sore head, the weather had took a turn for the worst - from a spectators point of view anyway, as the extra water on the slope would make it faster for the competitors.

The event had a touch of international flavour to it with the Swiss contingent of Anthon Holland, Cyril Neri and Alex Coudray.

Some notables from the event were Charlie Clark with some awesome FS 5's in the halfpipe, winning prizes of boards and goggles along the way. Stu Edwards, who had just returned from Austria, with Misty 5's and BS 900's. Mike Wakefield, a 16 year old blader who 'absolutely cleaned up'.

Rob Yeomans, Stu Edwards, Paul Cooper and Ol Cotton had a bit of a BS 180 psych-out competition amongst themselves just for fun.

Words by Craig Fearnley.
