The Forum Youngblood comp was scheduled to start at Tamworth Snowdome at 10pm but in a nice touch by comp organiser and Forum Snowboards European Team Captain, Jon Weaver, there was a free BBQ from 8…well 8ish once they'd got the fires lit and the smoke cleared. As any snowboarder will agree free food & free alcohol is not to be sniffed at so as you can imagine there was quite a crowd at the front of the 'dome. With the Tamworth slope staff ably assisted by Vermin's Stu Leonard & Lee Radford an excellent set-up was put together in a matter of 45 minutes. A gas-pipe, barrel, double kink, back to back c-rails, a frame, flat down, box & kicker gave a good range of toys for all riders. The comp was split into 3 categories, Girls under 19, Men's under 14 & Men's under 19 and the judging initially ran as a jam session to give everyone a chance to warm up and start showing what they could do. All the toys were being sessioned but the main focus for the evening seemed to be the c-rail to A-frame followed by the box and MC Jon Weaver soon moved onto a "Best Trick" session on the A-frame and box giving the older riders a chance to win T's & Bags from the giant box he'd brought with him. Stand out mentions at this point have to go to Tam locals Jon Weatherley & Joe Sandy who were too old to enter the main comp but were obviously determined not to be beaten by a bunch of kids. We were also treated to some smooth riding from ATV members Chris Chatt & Paul Rennie. Ripping for the girls was Emily Richardson with some smooth nose-press to switch on the box.

After mid-session groom a two run final took place giving the riders the opportunity to step-up the level and show they could cope with the pressure. Given that the winners would be gaining a Golden Ticket to the European Youngblood final it was time to pick the men from the boys. With 2 girls in the comp it was Emily who took the honours from Victoria Jackson with 2 strong runs including c-rail, A-frame and the box. The under 14 men's was always going to be hotly contended, these guys have been battling it out over the AIM series as well but once again Jamie Nichols proved unbeatable with Cody Hierons a close second and local rider Nathan Jackson taking third. The under 19's final was a good mix of riders including Chris Kightley, Robin Mann, Matt Higson, Paul Rennie, Ash McCullum, AJ Lawson and a guy who'd travelled all the way from Holland. Visibility from the bottom was a bit of a struggle as the fog had come down but this only added to the electric atmosphere. A great selection of tricks was demonstrated with a 540 off the kicker from Robin Mann and some smooth fs boardslides from Matt Higson but the stand out winner had to be Jules Zuidwijk all the way from Holland. Hitting the double kink, c-rail and flat down he wowed the crowd and the judges. As ever the rivalry between MK's ATV crew and Tamworth's Vermin was heightened by Paul Rennie keeping his nerve and stealing 2nd place with 3rd going to AJ Campbell.

Well done to all the riders who put on a great show, Tamworth Dome and the Vermin crew for an exceptional set-up and Forum for the free food and all the prizes. Keep up to date on the rest of the series and the final which the 3 winners have gained entry to via the website www.forumsnowboards.com/youngblood

Special Prize for riding well but being too old to compete:

We had an email about AJ Lawson from the US, who came 3rd. He says thanks to all the guys at Tamworth and Forum who made the night a success, he thinks the UK scene is "Awesome"!
