TheBoarder Forum Summer Bash

OnSaturday 24th August 2002 (2189 days ago)
LocationTamworth Snowdome and West Midland Water Sports Centre, United Kingdom

It's the UK's summer snowboarding festival. Smaller than Board-X. Shorter than Daily Mail. But snowboarding isn't a spectator sport, so this one's all about riding. Snowboards, wakeboards and giant tyres. Plus an all day BBQ, DJs and all night camping.

We think it went very well, but we might be a bit biased, so why not read what everybody else thought of the event here and here.

Watch this space, but there's almost certainly going to be at least one Forum Winter Bash in Scotland and possibly another in Chamonix. Another similar event next Summer will certainly be on the cards.

[Review by Nick Hutchings]

The second part of the Forum Summer Bash took place at Tamworth. The excitement was tangible as we pulled up to the Snowdome in Dunx’ yellow camper. How strange we must have looked to passers by as we trundled towards Tamworth dressed in Snowboard gear despite the balmy night. However, we didn’t have a second to consider the puzzled looks. Everyone was psyched to get the chance to do some riding with their internet buddies.

The session was proceeded by adrenalin tubing. The idea was that you rode down the slope in a rubber ring. I was sceptical as to how pumped tubing could get you. I had sat on them in various swimming pools but had never felt any kind of exercise-induced euphoria. So I skipped the event. What a mistake! As we sat in the bar watching those adventurous few try out this most obscure way of alpine travel, I could see that ‘adrenalin’ was a very appropriate description. The speed and bumps combined with the disco- light effect on the slope made for a surreal experience. One that may have left you sore, but certainly satisfied and amped to ride.

The adrenalin tubing was followed by the Forum session at 9.30. As a special treat the Forum crew were allowed on the slope until 1.30 am. Tamworth’s huge variety of rails and kickers were attacked. Among the plethora of tricks thrown down during the night, the Forum guys pulled some of the best moves. Basil laid down the law Scottish-style with clean backflip 180s while a sizzled Pro Dog threw off six hours of drinking to land some huge backside melons on the quarter pipe. Dunx gave out prizes, girls screamed and everyone left smiling.

The night was wrapped up with an impromptu barbecue, a few drinks and a lot of reminiscing about the events of the bash. This is what the ideal summer day should be - hard core fun with a crew of enthusiastic boarders who want to ride and party in equal measure.
