Farmers Jam
Board and Ski freestyle jam session and competition. DJ, Bar B Q, Test equipment.
End of the summer and the fields are full of plenty. A rumbling tractor sounds in the background and the spray of silicon on snowflex mists the morning air. The rails are polished and the scene is set for Norfolk's eighth edition of the Farmer's Jam, a competition that truly combines good vibes and combine harvester goodness. Saturday saw an influx of riders and skiers from all corners of the country and a hearty farmer's welcome to Will Nangle for travelling all the way from Edinburgh. The slope was set for a day of Big Air and a Rail Jam and a Slopestyle competition to follow on the Sunday. Jamie Debbage, the event organiser, had made the most of Norfolk's bounty, with a flowing set of rails. There were a multitude of lines that ranged across the two rainblows, SanFran, Rocket, picknic benches, big dendex kicker, and modular down-flat-down. Added to this was the snowflex park with kick, quarter and a new box for the coping. Snowboarding taster lessons were also available for a pound (never before has riding been so cheap) and instructors were on hand from Morzine. Patrice Delarue, on his first visit to a merry shores and first sighting of a dryslope was super impressed with the standard of facilities and the quality of riding. Saturdat kicked off a big air contest and evening rail jam on the down-flat-down box. Highlights included Tom Coe's smooth 360 truck drivers and Cody Heirons rocking backside rodeos all day long. Simon Riviere gave a masterclass in the frontside 3, but it was down to Nathan Onions to cork 7 his way through the final to a win. Sunday saw the slopestyle event, which used the same layout as the day before. James Thorne, whipped the Norfolk crowd into a frenzy, demanding riders and skiers switch up their tricks continuesly. Not to be unsupportive, however, he stoked vibes with an eclectic set of facts and figures. Snails travel at 0.03 miles an hour, don't you know. Tom Coe again demonstrated why he is on the Line Team with his performance in the under-16s. He so impressed the judges that he was awarded a week in Morzine to ski with Patrice Delarue. Despite this solid performance he could not hold out against the skiers from Sheffield. James Webb and Charlie Smith dominated, with James attempting 900s off the dendex kicker. Nathan Onions and Cody Heirons also maintained strong performances from the previous day and Ludo Canu showed that you don't have to be super young to switch hit a rail. When the day was done, all agreed that Norfolk had, yet again, shown how to run a contest based in good times and a chilled atmosphere. The crowd were tanned and cheerfully armed with a new supply of facts and figures from James Thorne and the riders tired, but happy in the knowledge the eighth Farmer's Jam would, without a doubt, return next year.
