The Brutal Story Continues – Skiers V’s BoardersSaturday 12th August 2006 saw the latest instalment of ‘Who’s The Daddy?’ billed as the Ultimate Freestyle Showdown Comp at the SnowDome. The scene was set on the slope with a grisly array of brand new toys including the Fun Bus, the Whale Rail and the ‘Daddy Tombstone’ towering above the ¼ pipe. It all kicked off at 10.00pm with the legendary Pat Sharples and Tim Sandy on the mic… a bar and balcony full of spectators and not forgetting a slope full of riders. The prizes were at the ready including a Dragon Lodge holiday in Tignes, Salomon Bindings, Fat Face jackets and pants, K2 Ski’s, K2 Board, Rehall outfits, Vans jackets, Nike ACG pants, SCUK… more t-shirts, DVD’s, hoodies and chocolates than you could shake a stick at… the list was endless. The comp began with the Funbus best trick with James Webb picking up a Fat Face pant and jacket combo. Special mention has to go to Sean Miller for his 1 footed frontside board slide boot grab and Russ Ormes backflip off the Fun bus which had he stuck it would surely have won! Next was the very closely fought best trick off the Grandprix kicker which saw a double barrel roll attempt from Russ Orme and some seriously corked 540s from Josh Fawcett. The honours eventually went to Tom Love for a huge super clean laid out backflip and James Woods for a mammoth misty 720. Bringing skiers and snowboarders together was the Double Daddy prize for best ski/ snowboard combo on the Whale rail. It was great to see so much love between everyone and Russ ‘flip’ Orme and Josh Fawcett claimed the win with Russ leading the way 50-50 to back flip and Josh closely behind with a faultless slide. The Daddy was decided in the ¼ pipe with everyone trying to get as high as possible up the 8” tomb stone. Everyone, skier and snowboarder was psyched and was throwing down on a whole new level. Two leaders emerged from the initial jam – Lee Radford (snowboard) and James Woods (skier). The pressure was on for one final run with both riders removing all traces of sanity, pumping down the slope from the top and hitting the ¼, no speed checks. Everyone was in awe as James Woods took an extraordinarily thin win (literally being millimetres between them). The level of progression from the last years event was incredible to see and leaves one question – Do they need a bigger tombstone for next years “Who’s The Daddy”? The majority left with a prize, even those supporting on the balcony got their fair share of T’s, hoodies, chocolates, hats, DVD’s and more! A HUGE thanks to all those that joined in on the night – from the riders on the slope for their gritty and brutal efforts, to Pat and Tim for their fabulous vocal entertainment, to all those that supported with cheers from the bar and balcony… and finally to all the fantastic sponsors, each and every one of them, a great night for all. See you in 2007 for the next instalment of ‘Who’s The Daddy?’ ![]() ![]() The Who's the Daddy? event page can be administered by dunx (Dunx), stu (Stu Brass), spencer (Spencer Claridge) and office (Office).
