 High and Dry 2003
A slope style followed by a big air.
By Craig Despite being the hottest day on record in the UK, the rider's were still out in force. Massive respect to everybody that braved the heat and stuck it out despite wanting to collapse or be sick. The slope started off riding really slowly where it was so dry and it was a struggle making it to the lip of the ramp to begin with for everybody. The sprinklers came on in force, Zardoz Notwax wipes were being given out at the bottom of the slope, the ramps were covered in parafin wax and then it all changed. Everyone was hitting the handrail at the top, getting a sick hit before taking loads of speed over the dual ramps at the top of the slope and going huge. The level of riding jumped up despite the heat, with Luke Paull frontflipping, Sam Cullum sticking a corked 5, there were FS Boardslides on the C rail, 50-50 to tail tap on the S-Rail and Dave Moore was pulling the biggest ollies off a dryslope kicker this year. The guys had gotten over the problem of the heat making the slope dry but it was still killing all the riders energy and making them drip with sweat so by the lifts they set up a sprinkler to revitalise them and gave them the energy to carry on pulling the sick tricks and huge airs that characterised the day. The slopestyle jam had to be ended half hour early before an insane final. The big air superfinal saw Stuart Clowser, Pob and Mike Rhodes getting insane amounts of distance and left everyone watching with their mouths open in amazement. All three of them were jumping massive but in the end it went to Mr Disco Pants, Stuart Clowser. Everybody was stoked with the day even though they all wanted to collapse with the heat when the event finished.
