![]() Burton Black Metal Rail Jam
More new toys arrive in the fridge courtesy of Burton.
The calm after the storm… they came, they rode and they kicked some serious black metal! The first of the Burton Black Metal trilogy has been and gone. With a huge turnout of over 50 of the UK’s brightest talents at the Castleford Snowdome, last Saturday can only go down as a massive success! Not only did the competitors get to step up and show the UK what they were made of, they also got to show off their artistic talents with the unique and effective process of colouring in their steez at registration! The boxes went down a storm thanks to Hamish McKnight and his team of relentless workers who spent days and nights hammering, welding and sawing to bring world-class full mountain sized features into the heart of the UK fridge riding scene. With such an abundance of ridiculously technical tricks being stomped, the final men’s competitors really deserve full respect for their efforts. Stu Edwards rode solidly through the night taking the glory with a 270 to frontside to 270 off on the kinked rail, backed up with switch frontsides and backside lipslides on the C with all the style to show why he’s firmly established as one of the stars of British snowboarding. Damien Doyle span through the kink to the applause of his home crowd whilst Steve Reville had switch frontsides to Danish down smoother than butter. It was a hard decision to put three names above the rest, as all the finalists deserve a mention. The women laid it down with Claire Storey in third riding the kinked rail, Laura Hill throwing down a host of runs through the kink with a sweet 50-50 to nose slide for second and Posy Dixon winning with a solid runs on both the kinked (backside Boardslide to switch) and the C. Burton would like to thank Hamish McKnight, Gary Greenshields, Olly Lambourne, Posy Dixon and Karen Hancock for all their hard word to create the superb box set-up. A big thanks to James Murray for capturing such great shots from the night- his images can be seen in their entirety on www.burtonblackmetal.com. Thanks also to the staff of TSA for their help and all at the Castleford Snowdome for hosting the event and lastly to all the dedicated riders who made the event such a success pushing levels of jibbing to new heights. Without all of you, Burton Black Metal would not be possible and our sport wouldn’t be moving forwards. Huge Thanks!
