After last year's successful kick off the Burton AM tour enters into its second season. Its main goal is to offer unforgettable slopestyle contests to all young riders out there. No matter if it’s their first contest, new trick, best show, or the day's victory. All that’s important is that participants have fun and make a step forward.

Milton Keynes was the third stop on this year’s European tour. Previous to this event the tour visited Landgraff (Holland) and Les 2 Alpes (France). And there are another twelve stops all around Europe left to go.

The schedule for the day’s activities would involve a practice session to start with. Then jam session 1 got underway which included all the girls and junior boys. Jam session 2 took place after that which was where the kid boys got a chance to impress the panel of judges and then the chosen competitors went into a final at the end of the afternoon held in the classic “two runs, best run counts” format.

The course was looking immaculate and consisted of a “three hit” set-up starting with a long down-rail or a flat box at the top. Followed by a c-box, step-up box or shark fin rail (an up-down rail with ledges running along the up). Then finally they had the option of a flat box or an urban style down rail with stairs on either side.

The standard throughout the day was exceptional with all the riders throwing down some amazing tricks. The Kid Girls category was very impressive due to some of the riders being smaller than the rails they were hitting. The Junior Girls must have been a difficult one to judge as the competitors rode to an exceptionally high standard and seemed to raise the level with every run. The c-box was one of the most popular features with the girls and saw a lot action along with the flat-box at the bottom.

Kid Boys was the heat with the largest amount of entrants and involved some of the most daring riding of the whole contest. These guys killed it with most of the competitors trying at least one trick on every feature in the park. A few of the older riders in the Junior Boys category were getting nervous after seeing what the younger guys were capable of, but rose to the occasion with some mind-blowing combinations and gutsy tricks. The “shark-fin” and down rail saw a lot of action from these boys during the day. I think a few of the riders were having a private "who can do the steeziest frontside boardslide" comp on the down rail.

The final took place in the afternoon and consisted of a two run, best-run counts format. The panel of judges were looking for execution, difficulty, amplitude, progression, combinations, risk and technical nature of tricks. They also took into account overall impression and extra points were awarded for showing diverse runs and variety of tricks.

The pressure was on, with most of the riders landing their chosen runs with clear-cut precision and style after honing there skills all day on the course. Those that didn’t land their preferred run tried it out again on their second go and the others tried to better their first by using a different line or trick combination.

The prize giving was held in the café at the bottom of the slope with the top four riders from each category getting armfuls of swag to take home with them. Including watches, board bags, tool kits, goggles and free ski passes for various sessions at Milton Keynes SNO!zone.

The Burton AM Tour would like to thank Nixon Watches, Anon Goggles, R.E.D Protection, TTR-Ticket to Ride and The IJC- International Judges Commission for their help in sponsoring the event, as well as the staff and cat drivers at Milton Keynes Snowzone who hosted the day’s activities.

Next stop on the tour is Madrid in Spain followed by a load of other dates throughout Europe. Check out www.burtonamtour.com for a full schedule, results and photos from this and all the events.

The Burton AM event page can be administered by dunx (Dunx), stu (Stu Brass), spencer (Spencer Claridge) and office (Office).
