Red Bull Rail Storm Warm Up
A warm up event for the Red Bull Rail Storm, with more prizes than you can shake a stick at.
[By Campbell Orr] The night kicked off as any comp does with a deluge of kids and questions with a steady and every increasing crowd there to back them up. First up were the kids session with around 20 youths competing - it soon became a play off between three young lads - Neil Stead, Connor Brolly and Connor Carey. Neil chose to hit all four rails in his first two runs with some solid 5050?s then on the third held a manual from the top of the slope to the bottom! During this the two Connor?s were attempting to match each other trick for trick where we saw some backside board slides on the kink and some one footed action from the pair on the black double where young Mr Brolly held it full length with a kick mid way. Only seeing a real break in standard between the two when Connor Brolly began popping 270?s to board slide on the long straight. Special mention goes out to the youngest and talkiest entrant by the name of Nicole - only 8 she started duet riding with another girl Caitlin for the majority of the comp, planning out there run at the top of the slope. Nicole was only able to get on the rails with the help of myself and Robbie Paton but still badgered the ears off us to try and help her get board slides - needless to say my shins hurt because of her. Heather McDonald pulled into first for the girls in this section with several backside boardslides on the black double. Adult session began and the standard blew us away! With around 30 entrants each rail was hammered with every trick under the sun. With the addition of a 5th rail, the S, at the bottom of the slope this was a session which did not disappoint. Nose slides along the hump back, people trying to gap to the top of the kink (photo of his back afterwards should be on soon) and a well fired up crowd due to a full night of solid sounds. I made the mistake of coming down to the bottom of the slope during the adult session where I was questioned into the ground by the kids and missed way to much of this so if anyone has a better report of this section please post it! First in each section got a full set up of Capita board and tech nine bindings (looked like £400+ worth of kit) and second and third received a board each. Big thanks to Redbull and Glasgow City Council and everyone organising the event for putting it on, all those turning up and entering and Graham as the nights MC.
