![]() Artificial British Boarder/Skier X Championships, plus Slope Style
This weekend, 21-22 August, the Orange AIM Series, in association with O’Neill, will take over Midlothian Ski Slope at Hillend, Edinburgh, for the national Artificial Boarder/ Skiercross Championships. There will be a purposed built Boarder/ Skiercross course down one of Europe’s longest dryslopes, offering turns, jumps and woops. Competitors will compete in heats of two to four and one or two from each heat will qualify to the next round, depending on number of entrants. Friendly Slopestyle and Big Air competitions will be run each day after the Championship races and a more relaxed Big Air/ Rail Jam Session will take place in between Boarder/Skiercross & Slopestyle qualifiers and finals (whilst the judges tabulate the score). Don’t forget – helmets are compulsory for all under 16! Look out for local talents this weekend, such as 12 yr old Murray Buchan, one of UK’s top freestyle skiers, and up and coming snowboarders Craig Howie, Pete Weir and Posy Dixon, who all will defend the Scottish flag on their home turf. Through an initiative to get more people into snowsports, the public is offered 200 FREE O’Neill snowboard lessons on the Saturday and Trespass ski lessons on the Sunday. To secure a one hour lesson with a qualified instructor, equipment hire and an Orange AIM Series goody bag registration can be done online at: www.orangeaimseries.com, or by turning up on the day. 21st August; Snowboard Competition 11 am Boardercross National Championships 1.30 pm Slopestyle Snowboard Competition 4 pm Big Air Snowboard Competition 5.30 pm Prize Giving 22nd August; Ski Competition 11 am Skiercross National Championships 1.30 pm Slopestyle Ski Competition 4 pm Big Air Ski Competition 5.30 pm Prize Giving The competition is part of the Orange AIM (Artificial, Indoor & Mountain) Series, in association with O’Neill, the UK’s national competition circuit for snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
