![]() British Rail Jam session, plus Product Testing (Evening Session)
Castleford SNO!zone, Xscape kick started the 2006 Orange AIM Series - UK’s Snowboard and Freeski Championship Circuit, on Friday 28th July to present the British Indoor Rail Jam. The brand new event attracted over 100 competitors, keen to impress, take home a title and win one of four fantastic worldwide holidays up for grabs. Local competitors including snowboarders Jamie Nicholls and Stu Edwards and freeskier Andrew Collins were throwing down the gauntlet and setting the standard on home turf, with a variety of technical tricks, picking up spot prizes along the way. Prizes included great gear from the events sponsors, plus a month’s worldwide holiday courtesy of www.seasonaires.com, for the best male & female skier and snowboarder. The excellent course consisting of an assortment of varied rails and boxes ensured a spectacular display of top British freeskiing and snowboarding. With entertainment all round, including free product testing of next seasons, Ride, K2 and Salomon products, music and running commentary, the event established a great start to the 2006 series. SkiingSkiers kicked off the evening’s competition, with youngsters including seven year old Mason Ferebee and 13 year old Rory Flindall pushing through the ranks, keeping the older competitors on their toes. Rory gapped the top section of the kinked rail, to slide the remaining section securing himself top spot in the under 16’s age category. In the women’s competition, Leeds local Amy Rudman, secured first place spinning from switch (backwards) on and off the box, to take home the title of Women’s Rail Jam Champion, plus the fantastic prize of a four week, worldwide holiday. The men’s coveted title and free worldwide holiday went to Charlie Smith, whose confidence and smooth 270 on 270 off, along the kinked rail held off fierce competition. SnowboardingExpectation turned into excitement as the snowboarders hit the slope. The relaxed jam format allowed riders to push each other to higher levels and link together new rail slide combinations, most commonly associated with console games! Halifax local Mat Macwhirter displayed amazing style and ability throughout the night and picked up first in the under 16’s age category with a mind-boggling boardslide to switch nose press to 270 out, over the down-flat-down box. Orange AIM Series newcomer Steph Caller set the standard amongst the female competitors and took home the title and holiday with an impressive nose slide to 180 out along the kinked rail. In the senior men’s category the competition was tight, pushing abilities to the maximum. Collum Mytton, consistent throughout, performed a perfectly executed gap, to 270, to tailslide on the down-flat-down box, to take home the holiday and more importantly title of British Rail Jam Champion. The Orange Aim Series would not be possible without its highly supportive sponsors: Orange, Trespass, Animal, ThirtyTwo, Etnies, Snowlife.org.uk, Xscape, Salomon, Ride, K2, Zeal Optics and Nixon.
