Braehead premiere for the Orange AIM national snowboard and ski series

100 FREE beginner lessons to the public are up for grabs when Glasgow, for the first time, hosts the British Indoor Slopestyle Championships at the brand new Braehead SNO!zone on the 5th August 2006. UK’s top snowboarders and freestyle skiers will prepare their skis and snowboards for some high stylin’ action.

During the day’s competition Britain’s snowboarders and freeskiiers will descend on Braehead, Glasgow in the pursuit of a champion’s title, with competitors showcasing technical ability and style on an obstacle course including rails, jumps and boxes.

With the advantage of the highlands on the doorstep, Scotland has a thriving freestyle scene and an abundance of snowsport talent, with one of the most famous riders to have competed at the Orange AIM Series events being Olympic snowboarder, Lesley McKenna, who currently holds the 2006 Women’s British Halfpipe Champion title.

More local talent, expected to put in an awe inspiring appearance at the event, include 2006 British Junior Halfpipe Champion, Ben Kilner, who at 17 is one of the UK’s most promising young snowboarders after finishing 8th in the 2006 Youth Olympics, whilst 2005 British Slopestyle Champion, Scott McMorris, will make the most technical of tricks look easy! On the ski side, ripper Murray Buchan, is currently the youngest pro freestyle skier in the UK and has many titles under his belt including, 2006 British Youth Men’s Slopestyle and Halfpipe Champion. At only 14, he will truly give the more experienced skiers a run for their money!

In conjunction with Snowlife, the Animal Snowboard Academy and the Trespass Ski Academy offer the public 100 FREE one hour snowboard or ski lessons with a qualified instructor on the SNO!zone nursery slope. The lessons will take place between 12pm – 4pm. Equipment is supplied by SNO!zone and all participants get a goody bag. To secure a FREE lesson pre-register on: www.orangeaimseries.com.

Serving up competition on Artificial and Indoor slopes as well as snow-capped Mountain resorts, the Orange AIM Series is based on open entry for all performance levels and competitors compete in age categories, catering for all tastes, ages and performance levels. By promoting the country’s leading slopes, and actively introducing schoolchildren to the thriving community of talented freestylers through the Schools Tour, it’s fair to claim that the UK is fast becoming a hotbed of freestyle talent.

A vast selection of UK’s top snowsport athletes and Olympic hopefuls have developed through the Orange AIM Series and over 5,000 beginners have tried snowboarding and skiing through the free lesson initiative over the last four year’s.

The Orange Aim Series would not be possible without its highly supportive sponsors: Orange, Trespass, Animal, ThirtyTwo, Etnies, Snowlife.org.uk, SNO!zone, Salomon, Ride, K2, Zeal Optics and Nixon. Official retail partners TSA and Ellis Brigham. Media partners Snowboardclub.co.uk, Natives.co.uk, Dark Summer and Whitelines.

The Orange AIM Series - Braehead event page can be administered by dunx (Dunx), stu (Stu Brass), spencer (Spencer Claridge) and office (Office).
