National Championships at Dorset Snowsport CentreWarmwell concludes the Orange AIM National Snowboard and Ski seriesThe UK’s top snowboarders and freestyle skiers descend on the Dorset Snowsport Centre for the first time. Taking place on 1st and 2nd October 2005, riders and skiers are taking on the Orange AIM Series British Artificial Big Air Championships. Dorset Snowsport Centre, AKA Warmwell to the locals, is a brand new Snowflex slope offering a 5m long, 1.5m high Big Air jump bad boy. After some pretty impressive performances in Rossendale the other weekend judges and organisers are waiting in anticipation for this week’s action. Will anyone beat the little men with big talent – Jamie Nichols’ and Murray Buchan’s 900? Prior to the Championships on both days, a Slopestyle competition will take place as a warm-up to the main event. The course designed by in-house course supreme Mr Claridge, will be a QP (quarterpipe) combo of the Red Bull stair box and the slope’s rainbow and up-flat-down rails. Finishing off Saturday’s snowboard competitions, the Red Bull Jibber of the Day event offers the all-important ticket to ride at the Red Bull Rail Storm event in London November 20th. So far Ben McHugh and Stu Edwards have won two out of three places in the Orange AIM Series Rookie Team. Who will join them? The Animal Snowboard Academy and the Trespass Ski Academy are also running free one-hour snowboard or ski lessons with a qualified instructor on the Dorset nursery slope. The initiative to increase participation and promote local facilities is open for all ages. The Dorset Snowsport Centre kindly supplies equipment and all participants get a complimentary goody bag. Orange will continue its search to find four amateur snowboarders to form the Orange Talk Now Team who will be coached by British rider Jenny Jones and will subsequently appear on the professional circuit. The search started in Milton Keynes on the 20th August with a panel of selectors attending each of the Orange AIM Series events up until October when the team will be announced. The team’s first appearance will be at the Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard Show in London in October, followed by a training camp in the Alps with Jenny Jones, internationally ranked in the top 20. Jenny will continue to coach and mentor the team in preparation for them to compete against UK’s best riders at the Orange Brits, in Laax, Switzerland, from 11th-18th March 2006. The Orange Aim Series would not be possible without its highly supportive sponsors: Orange, Trespass, Vans, Animal, Thirtytwo, Eastpak, Etnies, Snowlife, Xscape, Salomon, Ride, K2, APO, Ortovox, Nixon, retail partners: TSA and Ellis Brigham and magazine partners Dark Summer, Origins, Snowboardclub.co.uk and Natives.co.uk.
