I rode the burton HD step ins before moving over to straps.
The one major probelm i had over and above the control issues was in deep powder, if you have to take your board of and you havent got somewhere flat and hard to put it back on (ie in a powder field) you are knacked!
I was at the top of a hike and had to take the board off, i reckon trying to get the board back on was harder than the mile hike we had just done!
I just dont think step ins offer anything extra so you might aswell go with the more responsive handling of straps.
