Hi,

I recently purchased some Vans hi standard. They're new and haven't been heat moulded or anything.

Tried wearing them around the house last night but after 10 minutes they were murdering my feet. Took them off and put them on again a little while after. perhaps I didn't do them up as tight but the pain wasn't as bad, but still started to hurt again after a while.

Is this to be expected with new boots? Would heat moulding help this? I've used numerous rental boots before and never had a problem so don't think I have odd feet or anything. Is it just a case of wearing them in?

Cheers

Jon

Where did they hurt?

Tried on loads of Vans inc. Hi Standard - I can't wear em. All of them have a pressure point on the inside ankle, just where the tongue of the liner starts to curve. I also thought that the Hi Standards were extra tight on the top of the toes.

Wearing them in should help a bit, but it may not alleviate the problem entirely.

Where is the pain in your foot exactly?

The pain is the "pinch" on the side of the feet towards the front just behind the toes. The boots press in. The boot is quite tight on top of the toes but this isn't painful. Or the other pain is masking it......

I found the same thing, went with some burton motos in the end, cheap and snug.

Maybe you should send them back to where you got them and go somewhere like TSA where you can try them before buying.

Sounds as though you may need a wider boot - did you try them on before buying them?

Agree with the above - I'd return them then spend a good couple of hours trying on as many different pairs as possible before deciding on a final purchase.

I think they are very low by the toes.

I went for Motos too - it was either that or Salomons. Tried on about 10 different boots. The lower end of all brands were always the best fit for some reason. At least that works out cheaper!

Vans are crippling at the begining. You can heat mold them with a hair dryer but be careful as I melted Piggy's doing mine Laughing. The more you wear them the better they get. Then all of a sudden they're gorgeous. persevere with them It's worth it

Cool, cheers guys. I think after reading this I will send them back and get something else. I didn't try them on, got them online. An error I feel. Really feel it, in fact.

I go away a week on Satuday - enough time to cripple myself before gorgeousness? Considering I can't wear them to work. Or maybe I can.....

Agree with most of the comments on here. Send em back and go to a shop, boots are the one thing that needs to be spot on or your days on the hill are a total loss!

I'd try them with the hair dryer. Have you used them on the slope? If so you won't be able to take them back. I heated them up then wore them for half an hour and the transformation was amazing. If you can take them back Salomon FDB's are amazing. I can recommend them.

No, I just ordered them online and have just worn them at home. I'll give the hairdryer trick a go. If not I'll pop them back in post and go try some on.

definitely try some more on... i spent 3 sessions in shops trying on boots driving the TSA staff nuts and getting all the usual "f**kin' newbie..." stares. in the end i got salomon F22s... spent a week on the hill with these beauties last week and got zero foot pain and all the resposiveness and comfort i could ask for... the moral is - try loads on, it's well worth it mate.

Be careful with the hairdryer. heat them slowly and don;t let the dryer touch your liners or they'll melt
