Right then, it's a long time since I had a good moan on the forums but after Saturday night I’m really PISSED OFF!!!
As I mentioned earlier last week I taught my other half to snowboard last Monday and then took her over to Cas' on Wednesday night. We only had an hour on the slope and seeing as she was very very nervous I had a chat with the dude at the bottom of the hill (he was chucking people off who didn't come up to scratch) to make sure he was happy with how she was riding. He told me that he wasn't even concerned about her because she was in control and wasn't a danger to other slope users. Great stuff, so we just got on with it and built her confidence a bit more.
My other half then decided that she wanted to go again on Saturday night and have another play on the snow. Again she was very nervous, but hey we've all been there. We got ourselves 2 hours this time and headed out onto the slope. The gas pipe being just infront of where she set off didn’t help her nerves, but she just slipped around it and then got on with her business. She wasn't amazing but she was just about managing a couple of turns from halfway and was always in control. She had a grin on her face and admitted to having 'THE BUZZ' that you get when you finally crack the board-riding lark. Then she had a bit of a downer, she set off and got off balance whilst trying to turn, so she sat down, she got back up and set off again but got buzzed a couple of times, so she ended up just doing a vertical slip all the way down to the bottom. This was unfortunate, but hey we all have 1 bad run every so often don't we??? All of a sudden we are met by some stumpy bird with a walkie-talkie who is questioning my other half’s ability!!! She then has the cheek to suggest that she should go take level 3 lessons based on what she just saw!!! Well that just killed any confidence that Cherie had built up, I could see her face drop and she just turned to me and asked if we could leave. She was absolutely gutted, and all because some stupid little tart had got too full of herself and judged my girls ability on one bloody (bad) run down the slope!!! Yes I could understand if she was out of control and running into people!!! I even found out that the same little two faced cow had been out on the slope earlier checking people out and acknowledge Cherie after one of her 'normal' runs!!!
I know it's a bit of a rant but you didn't see how gutted Cherie was that night and the next day, she even told me that she had 'given up' and didn't want to go again!!!
I hope the little wench who did this reads these boards and has a response. And if you do I suggest you take some diplomacy lessons love!!!
And before anyone takes this the wrong way, the majority of staff over at Cas' are great and really made Cherie feel welcome and like one of the gang - she commented on how friendly most of you are.
I can go on even more, but will give it a rest - FOR NOW!!! |

Didn't she give your lass a chance to "prove her wrong"? Seems a bit harsh to me, but then what do I know, she'd probably have thrown me off too, it's been so long since I strapped in!
Have you taken this up with Cas? Just remembering what Dunx said about avoiding badmouthing organisations....
Still, she's a woman with a walkie talkie - the Cas equivalent of the "managers bunch of keys" - the more keys they have, the more power they have! |

You are right Bigsteve, she was going to give her the chance but the way she went about her business had completley knocked the wind from Cherie's sail. I told her to go back up and show her but she said she was nervous to start with and now she was just a wreck. The thing that got to me was the fact she had probably seen her earlier in the night and must have been happy (she was turning and stopping) plus Cherie had been told earlier that week that she was fine on the 'big' slope.
Fortunatley Cherie is more dtermined than ever now to nail her turns and we will be heading to Halifax for another day of coaching. God help walkie-talkie girl when my lady goes back to Cas' and she's sh*t-hot!!! Have you heard the Good Charlotte tune 'Riot Girl'??? Well it certainly applies to Cherie!!! |

This seems to be the main criteria XScape use…doesn’t seem to matter how many times you fall over, but if you try coming down without any attempt to turn then this is throwing off time.
The decision seems to vary too. Ok, they tend to be a bit more lenient if the park is empty, but skiers definitely get more leeway. I’m sure that throwing someone off is a difficult call, but it could be done with a bit more consistency. Ok, a bad skier may not be such a danger to themselves…but they are to everyone else on the slope.
Once, I saw a family outing, obviously affluent father was ‘teaching’ his young son. Honestly it was dangerous, he was taking the poor kid right to the top and trying to ‘show’ him how to do stem Christies…he couldn’t even snowplough! It was actually dangerous for the other users of the slope, this kid was just suddenly lurching to one side and falling…if you weren’t keeping you eyes open properly he would have been so easy to hit. I had a word with one of XScape’s staff but he said there was some reason they couldn’t throw them off (something like they had booked all afternoon…yeah, I’d like to see snowboarders get away with that!) Finally, some sense took over and they did ask them to please only go from halfway and cut the day short after one hour…with a refund. |

I had a similar experience when I was boarding with my little girl (aged 9)on a very quiet Saturday morning. A lad approached me informing me that it looked as though I was teaching her to board when all I was doing was watching her from the middle section to the bottom. I was close to putting that spotty grunt on his arse. It wasn't the fact that he said it it was the way he said it. What seemed to amaze me was the fact that they think that anyone who has lessons are snowboarding week in week out but my little one only gets the chance to go once every month
1. because its my contact time
2. expensive
3. transport and costs
Perhaps a little customer relation excercises for the staff who I must say have been really good so far. A bit of understanding wouldn't go amiss. Totally agree with you Brinkz and I hope I'm there to see your other half kick her arse. I also have good idea who you are talking about as I have been on the end of a tongue lashing from that one aswell and I don't mean a BJ. |

Hey,
kicking people off the slope is one of the worst things i find about the job, but if a person is puuting other peoples safety in danger there is no way we can just let this happen.
I can't comment on your experience as i wasnt there, but it is not just the one person that speaks to you that makes the decision, everyone on the lift shares there opinion and then a decision is reached. |

| to be honest if you had a qualified instructor on duty at all times to make that call it would save a lot of arguments a good snowboard and ski instructor can make a judgement on wether someone is in control and if they are a danger to other slope users (but lets face it danger is inherent in snowboarding i've been riding nearly 8 years with 4 seasons under my belt and every now and then you just can't help making a wrong turn) so lets just leave the message for those nervous newbies.... ignore the jumped up wannabes and enjoy yourself, you will improve by relaxing and just enjoying it |

Quite a few of the actual rental team are qualified in some way or another, either haven't done medical training or are too young.
I see your point about kickers and things as this week i was pretty scared of some of them too.
And one last thing, if you take time to speak to the lifties you'll see what where really like, i know plenty of regulars there and there all pretty daym cool. |

Will be either Monday or Tuesday through the day mate - build up the confidence while it's quiet. Are you gonna be around?
Yorksha, i'm feeling you dude, i hope you didn't let them get one over on you and carried on 'supervising' your daughter. And don't worry, i'll be posting on these boards as soon as my girl has jibbed the flat-down and snotted it to Miss Hitler!
McSki, i would understand if she was a danger - i wouldn't encourage her to carry on myself - but she wasn't and the lifties who were on at the time, well i know for a fact they don't know one end of a board from the other so how dare they comment on her ability!!! And before any sort of argument is thrown back, i am a qualified instructor and a regular over at Cas' and i certainly would not advocate that anyone goes on the slope unless they have the ability to control themselves.
What is also frustrating is the fact that they were allowing people on boards and blades to fly down the slope, barely missing people and causing mass panic amongst the peeps waiting for the lift!
As for the identity - short, dark hair and apparently is so sure and safe she broke her own wrist on her first outing onto the 'big' slope - so maybe some understanding as to why other people are taking it carefully wouldn't go amiss!!!
Can anyone tell im angry??? |

| dont blame you mate it woulnt be to bad if there was any consistancy in who gets tossed and who doesnt on any given day. Still tell your missis to keep going cos its worth it in the end even if its only to give it to the silly little girl who got at her. |
