| This year is the only time I have ventured into powder when I went off piste and through the trees but I just fell over and struggled to get up. Why do you lot think it is like snow sex? |

| Once you're good at riding it you'll love it, straightlining a powder field is the next best thing to flying |

BigDanno, I used to be exactly the same as you, could never see the attraction of it when there was a park to hit up...
Thruth is, it's like surfing, when you hit up some freshies and hook up a perfect, clean line up, your turns feel like something else. Of course if you then hit a booter you can have even more fun. |

| I was in the same psoition as you BD. Fell over all the time but couldn't stop laughing. Read some tips on here and went out again and sure I fell over a few times still but it was a much better experience. Gotta love that floating feeling. |

As soon as i learnt that speed is our friend with powder, it totally transformed it for me - then once you have a pow-specific board it transforms from a hellish-trap to the best riding experience there is
Stick with it! |

Give me one powder day a year and I'm contented! There is nothing quite like that feeling of cranking a turn and taking a full-on faceshot, before coming out the other side and launching into the next one.
Try it again, keep your weight on your back foot (which goes against everything you've been taught so far). Once it clicks, you'll crave it on every trip |

I love powder, great feeling, but yeah you really need to try it more than once
The technique is quite different from riding on the piste: pressure more towards the rear and turning more with the bottom of the board rather than on an edge.
Read up on some tips, watch some YouTube vids, then have another go.
I'd stay away from the tree runs till you have basic control sorted though. Tree are hard and tree wells can be really quite deep! |

| Speed is definitely key as it's hard turn on piste if you're not going quickly enough but impossible to turn in powder if you're not going fast enough. Just remember you don't need to worry about wiping out at speed as powder gives you a nice soft landing! |

It may just be a case your snowboard is too short for you and powder to become properly acquainted. You need speed and to keep your nose out of the powder, so you tend to lean back more as compared to riding on the piste. Try setting your bindings back a notch or two (or as far back as they'll go).
There's nothing quite like it for me. As Stevie says, if I get a great powder day a year, then I'm happy. Go to Japan!

Got to echo the thoughts about 1 great powder day a year making me happy, been seriously spoilt this year, so that makes 2012 especially good I reckon. Get that nose up and boot it, just watch if you're in the trees....!!!!!
Ain't many better feelings than floating through that stuff |

When you know how to ride powder you will understand why people love riding powder.
It makes old people feel young again and it lets you do lines you would never normally think about doing becasue you know there is a soft landing down below.
On powder days I line up an hour or hour and a half before the lifts open to get first lines. At peak chair I would like up for 2 hours and hope it opens for first lines down Whistler bowl. |

just echo-ing what everyone's said really. It's all about knowing how to ride in pow. Once you get it you'll be addicted!!
Nothing is better than fresh tracks on a blue bird sky day... *dreams to herself* |

Once you've mastered riding pow you'll know. It's the best feeling, almost indescribable.
Stay away from the flat stuff, lean back and as with everything in snowboarding - speed is most definitely your friend! |
