So, I finally booked a holiday last weekend that I knew would rock my world!
Return coach from my home town of Folkestone, a week's SC in La Plagne and a La Plagne ski pass (perfectly fine for me and my husband as we are still learning)- £365 each for a week commencing on 2nd March.
Basically I was told that once booked we would be told which accommodation we would be placed in, within a couple of days.
Got an email two days later saying that they couldn't get accommodation, they put the wrong dates on their site, and they had refunded my booking.
Where do I stand with this? I cannot find anything that remotely compares to this price wise, and don't want to push my holiday back by another week because I am nervous about the conditions going into mid march. It is also my husbands birthday on 6th March and although it is not imperative, it would have been nice to celebrate his birthday while we were away.
Help!!!! Thanks. |

?? Ok.....
For them to just cancel and refund then notify me by email without even contacting me first is disgraceful in my opinion. Potentially I could have not checked my email for at least a week or so, before finding out. Equally, it is their problem if they cannot find accommodation as I have committed and paid my money to them for the dates they had advertised. If they hadn't got accommodation, then why was it advertised?
Doing a DIY booking is coming up at about £160 more than going through this company. |

I wouldn't say you've been 'screwed over', that's a bit harsh, they let you know early and refunded your money
Unfortunate is perhaps a better word...

They did contact you... they emailed you

But that didn't happen...
Edit: It also mentions in their Terms&Conditions that it's your responsibility to look out for contact from the company in the event of an error, the same Ts&Cs you agreed to when you booked the trip

You answered this in your first post.. "Got an email two days later saying that they couldn't get accommodation, they put the wrong dates on their site, and they had refunded my booking. " |

OK, well you all think I am being a bit drama queen about it all so forget it, but how can I get something at this same price?! I am really stuffed. Just 4 weeks to go.
Any other good coach companies?!! |

Perhaps rather than incorrectly shaming SkiSkuttle on a public forum despite them following their terms and conditions properly, you could politely speak to them and ask if there's anything they could do to help you sort out a similarly priced holiday
Your situation is very unfortunate and you have the right to be upset, but I think it's worth NICELY asking them if they can help you out within reason, they are only human, mistakes happen!
Also, they are clearly a budget holiday company (nothing wrong with that), which means they are often unable to offer peace of mind that larger, luxury companies such as Virgin would be able to. Cheap n cheerful for a reason |

Put a post on here looking for dates.
Have a look on some of the other recent forum posts asking about budget holidays.
Check groupon, theres tons of deals on there.
Be brave, go last minute if you have the time off work. Transfer days are normally sat-sat so you should get something |

Yeah as others have said, its unfortunate and i see why you're pi**ed off but im not sure what you mean by where do you stand, where do you stand on what? They gave your money back what else are you expecting, compensation? Also as annoying as it is its hardly their responsibility to make sure you check your email, just as its not their responsability to make sure you answer your phone or check your answer messages. Neither is it their fault that you cant find anything else as cheap as they were offering. You saw a bargain, it didn't work out and you got your money back. Time to start again rather than slagging off a private company who did the right thing exactly as expected in the circumstances.
As said above look last minute, there are always bargain but remember, the start of march is still peak season so no need to be paranoid about the snow, very single resort will still have snow by then and many places are open right till the end of April. La Plagne regularly opens into April. |

book last minute, you could fly somewhere awesome for not much more than that, surely waiting till last minute you could find somewhere to fling an extra few bucks at it too. |

I do believe it was poor service on their part, because this is the second time they have done this. Previously they advertised a deal I went to book. It had been on their site for 2 weeks previously and I just wanted to call them to check about the cost of the ski pass upgrade. When I called they said the deal had sold out, yet they hadn't bothered to withdraw it from their site (which must take seconds surely). I checked a few days later and it wa still there. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but because this deal to la plagne was new I had no reason to believe my booking would not be fulfilled.
I am legally entitled to compensation under the circumstances of them being unable to honour the booking.
I don't want to fly because of the extra cost of luggage and sports equipment, plus the long drive to the airport and cost of parking it will always work out loads more expensive. Equally I can take loads of food and groceries when going by coach which makes self catering dead cheap. |

you could dwell on it and make yourself unhappy over the situation, or you could move on and go on a different holiday.
in the end your talking about a few hundred quid. not a fortune. |

| It is frustrating but You won't get compensation. No legal remedy for loss of a bargain I'm afraid. They refunded your money that's all you are entitled to. |

Cool, everyone has their preferences, but if you think about it, what compensation could be offered? You booked it a week ago...what have you actually lost? if you had this on the calendar since the summer or something I could see how that would be more of an issue?? I dunno...you seem pretty adamant you're legally entitled to something for it, so go for your nelly, but to be fair, should you not just rub this one out and get your sights on something to look forward to? seems like an awful lot of agro to cause yourself and the company and the only people winning out of that one (if there is a case to answer) are the lawyers, as I don't know how much compensation could be paid out for someone who has been slightly inconvenienced in the timeframe of a week?
much of the advice offered on this thread has been similar - last minute deals are there to be had, but if you've managed your budget based on going by coach, probably best saving yourself from an anger stroke and going with another company. |

I know you all think I am being mean!! It is incredibly disappointing though and after literally hours of trawling the Internet I am struggling to find something. I lost my job this week so "a couple of hundred quid"s difference matters a lot. I think it is wrong to think the company are fine to keep advertising deals they cannot honour.
I am not expecting them to fling £100 my way for the inconvenience or disappointment. |
