just got told off someone who works for BT and lives nextdoor that we had someone out to do something (dont ask what as im a tech biff) almost doubled my speed over night

HA! We got the letter saying they're upping the speed etc one week..... mega.... BUT then the next week another letter that they're going to be charging us an extra £2 a month for our package due to them 'wanting to give a better service' or words to that effect :-/
