Hey people,
Hope all is well! I'm getting ready for my next holiday (Tignes leaving Friday night! Woop!) and thought I might invest in some Walkie Talkie's...
I've had a look around, and seen some with reviews on Amazon that look OK (and that I can get quick delivery on...) but didn't know if anyone had any recommendations of some that work well in the mountains?
There is going to be a group of 5 of us, so planning on getting 2 sets to put on the same frequency so we can all keep in touch...
Any advice / reviews would be very useful
Thanks in advance!

| I've heard mixed reviews of how well walkie talkies work in the mountains but we had a pair of these in Les Arcs last week and they worked pretty well most of the time. So long as you're not on different sides of a mountain they're pretty good and helped us out a few times when we'd lost people. You can get them with a charger too ( http://www.maplin.co.uk/twin-pack-latit ... ios-218003 ) Cheap and cheerful really. |

Thanks for the tip CjKit, they look good and good value too. I'm guessing they're vaguely waterproof? (or at least didn't die as soon as they get dropped in snow)

| My mate dropped one out of his pocket into the snow outside the chalet one morning and we didn't find it till we got back at the end of the day. It still works fine. |

We took a set to Jasna one year and i have to say it was the best move i ever did!
Im not sure on the brand of the ones we took (i will find out today for you) but they worked ace all over the hill and not once did we fail to contact one another.
Also quite funny when you know your mate is on the lift and you shout random things down yours to him, causes other users to throw random looks his way haha.
I swear my bro had some kid convinced that there was a person trapped in my back pack |

| Our set were the Binatone 550 Terrain, they worked superb and you can pick up a twin set for around £35, But to be fair if i was you i'd be very tempted to opt for the Binatone action 950's, they have far superior performance (i was just on a few forums readin up on them) and you can pick them up for around the £40 mark on ebay and £44 at argos. I think im going to get a set for When im away in Austria in feb. |

| Just checked and Argos are selling the 950's at £59.99, but Amazon do them for £39.37. Will probably get some before we go to Austria. |

I have a pair and don't even bother taking them away. If all you're using them for is arranging to meet up for lunch with your mates then a text will do. Just something else to lose, charge, fall on... but they are good gadgets |

| They're handy when you're photographing people. Otherwise I agree with Dunx, one more thing to carry in addition to a phone. |

+1 for that! If you manage to get some covert earpieces to use them while riding they can be fun too... especially for co-ordinating synchronised punter slashes |

I bought a set of reconditioned Binotone 950 walkie talkies off Ebay - I've just looked and can't find any for sale - I paid £20 delivered for the pair. What ever brand you buy I would recommend getting the ear piece and throat mic that way you'll not have to shout multiple times until the other person realises that you're trying to get hold of them.
The Binotone 950 have a 10 km range on the mountains too. Really pleased with them, battery life is great and they are really nice and simple to use.
This model - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-BIN ... 5ae2895b5f
However as I said above, I managed to get a factory reconditioned set. |

Ive got the same ones and never did me wrong. comes with in car chargers, ac charging dock and voice activated earphone and throat mic.
i thought it was great as my GF is a little nervous around strangers so we could always keep in touch no matter where we were |

We had a set with us recently in Chamrousse and to be honest for us it was a waste of time. Whenever you were in a different vally they didnt work properly so we just ended up using mobiles instead.
If you don't mind the extra weight then you'll be fine though but you might end up buying them and not using them
