Theres quite a lot of choice out there but theres also a lot of tat as well.
Has anyone got a case they use for this purpose which they can recommend? |

| A zip lock sandwich bag with a silica pouch in it. Honestly. You can pay 20 notes for one from car phone warehouse but this will work just as good |

I wouldn't bother with a fancy waterproof case, its not exactly going to get terribly wet? You take it out you take a picture and you put it in your pocket, its not going to get near any water. As Dashie said, a clear zippy bag would work fine.
I would be more concerned about the cold, most of my mates iphones seem to freeze up and die whilst out on mountain due to the cold so keep it in an inside pocket near your body heat or stick it in a sock or something if its in your pack. |

In my experience there is no need for waterproof case. I've dropped mine in the snow a few times with no problems. Battery life may be an issue in the cold (especially if using a tracker app etc) but I find one of these works well:

Also gives a little extra protection when you drop it - my new 4S fell down two flights of tiled stairs in the hotel and survived without a scratch. The battery case now rattles disconcertingly but still functions OK. |

Mine was snowed on, fallen on, burried and still came out smiling.
Only issue is if you have a warranty claim, they check for water damage. There's a little piece of film or paper down the bottom of the speaker hole, and if that gets wet, it changes colour and they refuse to repair them. |

Had the same problem with an Ipod touch, Apple genius it had water damage, it hadn't it had been used in a speaker dock in the bathroom wilst having a hot bath, the steam must activate it. After a calm polite arguement they sorted the problem, it had frozen. |

I've got this one that I use on my bike:
£28 from http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0057FJ41Y
Good bit of gear. The bike mount bit can be removed when boarding obviously, unless you plan to clamp it to your bindings. |

I think too many people get a bit carried away with what they need for going away.
As it has already be mentioned, what's wrong with just putting it in your pocket?! If you go away snowboarding and the inside of your pockets become wet, your either doing it wrong, or need a better jacket. Or Both. |

A mate of mine killed her iPhone by leaving it in her jacket pocket which got full of powder in a fall.
If you're going to carry about a £400 gadget that doesn't like getting wet then a couple of pence for a freezer bag seems like a reasonable investment.
I use that case, cos I have it anyway for my bike. |

Well to protect my expensive telecommunication device while on the slopes I just zip my pocket up.
Stops it falling out too, which I'd be much more worried about. |

NO!
You must purchase more stuff!
Just in the same way you shouldn't even look at a picture of a mountain without having a base layer on that costs AT LEAST £80 or otherwise you'll bleed from your eyes and die!
after you have bought your definitely necessary case perhaps you'd be interested in buying a device to hold it for you

Yeah, it's the unfettered mad consumerism of people throwing away money on freezer bags that got the world into this financial mess.
