Sorry to bring this up again, but I couldn't let it lie. So after several calls, I have their official line and got them to put it in writing. So you CAN get that extra 20 kg!
"Thank you for contacting us.
I understand that you still do not have a proper clarification on this matter. The total allowance is per passenger per flight and to be scenarios specific, please refer to the examples mentioned below:
First Case : If you and you co-passenger has check-in separately. You have one hold bag, your allowance is 20 kilos. Also, you friend checked-in with sports equipment then his allowance is 32 kilos dedicated to sports equipment only.
Second Case : If you and you co-passenger has check-in together. You and your friend has 1 hold bag and 1 sports equipment then the total allowance is 32 kilos (20 kilos + 12 kilos).
So, allowance does not depends upon whether the passengers are in one booking or in separate booking. It only depends upon how they checked-in at the airport.
Regards,
Monika

I would advise anyone who intends to use their full, paid for baggage allowance to confirm this information for themselves. I don't want anyone having a go at me if some intransigent jobsworth charges them excess! |

Jeez, if that's the definitive answer, I can only imagine what the question was. Nice and simple anyway |

| Yeah. Basically, check hold & board bags in separately to get maximum baggage allowance. Seems daft but that's the way they look at it. |

It's similar to the argumant i had.
I had everything in one snowboard bad (1 Hold Bag @20Kg), as did my missus.
Even though we had no other bags they weren't happy, but let us on without extra charges.
On the way back at Toulouse, they made us pay the excess baggage charge, even though they were the same bags we went out with, at the same weight, so theoretically we could have then bought a bag, and filled it with 20Kg too!
Go figure! |

Ah, the lovely Monika. Sounded Mid/Eastern European.
If there is more than one of you and you have at least 1 bag & 1 board bag, check in separately to get 32kg for the board bag instead of 12kg. |

I've had a look myself at this and it's quiet clear on the website for a change!
http://www.easyjet.com/en/planning/baggage.html
I do think it's a bit of a joke that you can take 32KG in your Sports bag if that is the only bag you have in the hold.... but if you also have normal luggage and a sports bag your weight allowance doesn't increase (but you get charged for your normal case in addition)
I know they could reject your sports bag and say it's should only carry sports equipment.... but are they really going to do that!
I think from next season I will be throwing as much in my board bag and then doing the same in my hand luggage as there is not weight restriction on the hand luggage.... bloody crazy!
But roll on a week Thursday for a few days on the slope.... just need to convince the wife that I should go again in the late season to make up for the inconvenience of her being due around our normal surfing trip time..... might have to buy her a nice pushchair to sweeten her up ;o) |

It was the little illustrations that started me off on this. It didn't seem reasonable to pay extra but get no extra allowance.
Me & a mate share a board bad & hold bag when we go away - 2 boards, boots & bindings in 1 board bag is about 20kg. We've never had hassle before but after reading posts on here from people who had, I wanted a definite answer, especially with a family trip coming up. If there's just 1 person then it doesn't apply, it's just the 32kg. |

I get it, pay for the allowance of luggage and sports luggage too and you get 32kg. As its per person they don't care if it's spread over a suitcase and a board bag or all crammed in a board bag together. As long as each person has a max limit of 32kg the plane can leave the ground and not drink too much juice (and the skinnies cancel out the fatties!).
I'll take both bags, that way I don't have to cram and I can keep my normal going out clothes separate. Might even throw a few hangers in. See what happens... |

Wait, wait, wait...
So If there's four of us n a booking, then we get less allowance for checking in as a group?
What if you check in online?
What's our allowance if we have two hold bags and three sports equipment? I worked it out as cabin baggage + 40kg for hold bags + 36kg for sports equip. Is this incorrect?
*edit
we have 2 hold bags and 3 sports equipment |

This seems a total farce. According to Monika, I make my booking for one suitcase and a board bag so I get 32kgs. My mate does the same, booking separately from me, one suitcase and a board bag, totalling no more than 32kgs. We just so happen to bump into each other in the bag drop queue at the airport so decide for convenience to go up to the counter together but instead of getting the 32kgs each we would actually only get 44kgs between us?!!
Maybe Monika is getting a tad confused between booking and checking in because if I checked in online myself I would expect to get the full individual allowance of 32kgs for me regardless of how many people I went to the baggage drop counter with!
No wonder people get annoyed.
Moral of the story, go to the check in/baggage drop counter on your own. |

No. You'd still get 32kg each as you've both paid for bag & board bag.
That situation would apply if one of you had a hold bag & one of you had a board bag. Then the one with the board bag would lose 20kg! Still crazy!
It seems the only way to avoid them taking away some of the 32kg you buy for £50 is to check in separately. |
