Hey
Anyone been with Crystal/Thomson from Birmingham to Toulouse very recently?
I have only booked one snowboard carriage (as I always do) for two snowboards in a coffin style case which I always put both mine and my girlfriends board and bindings into (and my boots).
This hasnt ever been an issue before in all the years I've been going to Austria, but this time we're off to Arinsal with Crystal (As opposed to Thomas Cook) and inside the travel tickets/docs it states 15kg for snowboard equipment.
Thomas Cook has never in the past had a definite weight limit in their T&Cs and I've always gotten away with only paying for one snowboard carriage.
So I was wondering if anyone has experienced any issues with this recently?
To be honest I think my coffin style case with ONLY my snowboard and bindings alone will probably be damn close if not over 15KG without my girlfriends. |

For the past few years they have had this weight limit. They also like you to only have one board in one bag and although its very rare for any to get checked, the group in front of us last year in the check in cue did get asked to open their board bags.
As you often have to carry the board bags from check in to the oversize luggage area some peeps will keep luggage out of their bags whilst its being weighed and then stuff more in whilst carrying it across to oversized luggage area ( something I wouldn't advise) |

Just arrived back yesterday from a Crystal trip to Serre Chevalier, flying with Thomson.
At Glasgow our bags were weighed properly. The allowance was supposed to be a 15kg/20kg split between board bag and hold bag respectively. However, so long a sthe combined weight of both of them was below 35kgs, they weren't too fussed.
Coming back at Turin airport, they didn't even bother to weigh the board bags! |

I was on the same GLA - TRN flights.
On the way out, they didn't weigh any of our three board bags as that was all we were putting in the hold.
However, they did weigh the three rucksacks we took as carry on.
This is the first time I've never had my board bag weighed at a Scottish airport and the first time I've had my rucksack weighed.
Check-in staff at TRN never said a word. |

| I booked through Crystal to go Banff and my baggage limit was 23kg. As long as you're on or under weight, you can put anything you like in the bag. |

Flown with Crystal/Thomson before a few times and the only times our board bags touched a scale was when they were sat on them to have a tag attached by the check-in staff before we took them to oversize baggage but they were never actually weighed! Never had a board bag weighed by ANY airline yet and my bag is a HUGE roller bag that i have board, bindings, boots, jacket, goggles, hats, gloves, helmet, 2pairs of trousers, socks and pretty much everything you would wear over your whole holiday when on the mountain.
I know its a bad idea incase my bag gets lost cos then i have no gear and will need to buy/rent clothing etc. aswell as a board but thats how i do it and it leaves me a rucksack with jeans, tshirts, underwear and toiletries that doesnt weigh much to go in as my hold luggage.
The only time we had a problem with baggage was flying from Prestwick to Grenoble with Ryanair and a couple of skiers that were with us had bags that were over weight and couldnt transfer their heavy boots into their skinny wee ski bags so the check-in woman suggested putting them in someone else's bag or snowboard bag (even though their rules state you're not allowed to share luggage allowance) We did this and got on our way, at Grenoble they didnt weigh bags & I came home with my mates gear in my roller bag aswell as mine cos he got flown home in a medi-flight after some pr1ck hit into him and he had to be airlifted from the mountain to hospital then 2weeks later flown home.
£19 insurance saved ~£24,000 hospital bills, make sure you have it before you leave for the airport!!! |
