boardsure looks fairly comprehensive at 19 quid, single trip, does anyone know of a policy that does new for old on kit, or am I wasting my time looking?

I'm fairly sure you're wasting your time. I think any policy offering new for old kit would be so abused it would be crazy. If there was one, I've got about 5 boards 8 or more years old in various states of disrepair, so I'd be inviting people to steal them so I can get a new quiver of boards!

Most companies seem to offer a sliding scale of reductions depending on how many years old your board is.

Out of interest I just went on and got a quote from TAG for me and the missus.

It's coming in at £144 for the annual, worldwide including NA. Thats £40 CHEAPER than it was last year and thats without me getting any renewal discount.

I'll need to properly compare the policy wording from last year to this, but for me the big things still seem covered and teh amounts (which do look less) for gear would still cover my kit.

The only major thing that jumps out at me is the Off piste bite, which now says:

"You are accompanied by, or have access to, an experienced and/or suitably qualified instructor or guide;"

For most people that probably kills it, but sa I'm going to Colorado and everything I'll do is classified as "In Bounds" on teh piste maps, I don't think that matters to me.

Big thing: the park is still covered.

I'll report back on the full differences once I properly compare last year and this years policies.

I looked into TAG and was told the park wasn't covered under the standard policy, although I think it may have been an optional extra, so I'd double check that if I were you.

Tbh they weren't particularly knowledgeable about their own policy. I was told that there only needed to be 2 of you to go off-piste and you didn't need a guide, but then the policy wording someone posted said you need 3 people (but still no guide). In fact they couldn't even send me a copy of the policy wording to check through before I signed up. Their computer system is rubbish so the lady had to do 3-4 different new quotes to check the different options - she couldn't just change the options on the existing quote.

In the end I went with the Insure & Go 'black' policy as it was a lot clearer what was covered - I could check the policy wording before signing up - and more competitive too. It doesn't cover the park but you can add freestyle as an option if you ring them up.

It was listed in the policy schedule under "Whats covered" when I was going through the booking. Stipulation was "non competitively" and teh note was "On purpose built features only".

Its possible that because I was looking at the worldwide policy including America that all that stuff is included as standard.

For example, I never had to select any "Winter sports" checkbox or teh like, it just listed it as being covered.

Others I've looked at do the same. Single trip policies you need to add extra cover. Annual worldwide ones tend to include everything.

But thats just me guessing, couldn't say for sure.

Update:

Heres the Activities list for the annual policy on their website.

http://www.tgic-online.com/ti/jsp/activ ... annual.jsp

And the one for the Single trip policy:

http://www.tgic-online.com/ti/jsp/activ ... single.jsp

As you can see, Annual looks to be covered as standard, single trip you need to add the "Winter" extension.

People may actually be cheaper (or pennies in it) going for the annual policy. (if it covers everything you want)

Edit 2:

Single trip (15 days) with Winter Sports extension for me and my wife: £202

Annual Multi Trip which already includes Winter Sports for me and my wife £144.

What the actual f*ck!

Go figure...

Anyway, we hope to have our policy back up and running by next Thursday latest. Same policy with a few tweaks and the "necessary" premium increases (bigger for World Wide than Europe).

When I did last season in Morzine, I went to the local AXA Insurance office and purchased Extreme sports insurance for any sport in any country for €60 (including on/off piste and park) this was for a years cover.

Worth thinking about if your out there for a long period of time or if you know your going to do other sports over the year.
