HELLO.

Posted a while back about this, but finally got the Citroen Berlingo booked.

Anyone know the best route to take, as I've heard satnavs arent to be trusted in the winter months? Or can anyone point me in the direction of a decent route planner that wont send me to an icy death or french hillbilly rape?

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you arrive and hire from international secteur...hire car desks are right out of arrivals gate, past the montreux jazz cafe.
Leave Geneva heading for FRANCE
turn left at the first opportunity for FRANCE (TCS police sign)
At the top of the slip, take the immediate right.
Keep following FRANCE and ANNECY but green (swiss) blue (france) (Aroute signs)
After the border and peage, keep going.
At Annecy, take the exit marked ALBERTVILLE (last of 3) peage
Follow Albertville signs through annecy.
Keep going , following the lakeside, always Albertville. Try not to get irritated at the traffic calming around Ugine. Don't speed, there are fixed speed cameras. There is no margin for error, 90 means 90
When you get to Albertville, follow Tarentaise not albertville centre (passing McD's on the other side of the road)
Head for Moutiers.
When you get to Moutiers, get in the lane for Bourg St Maurice / Haute Tarentaise.
Keep going.
At Bourg, just follow the signs through Seez.

You can take the motorway through to Chambery - Albertville but it will cost you more and the traffic around Chambery 'can' be a PITA.

see via michelin or google maps...
edited to make obvious from the int side..

A potential kettle of fish getting out of Geneva. Depends which side of the airport you're hiring from, Swiss or French, but once you're out of Switzerland you can literally do it by following the signs.
Geneva - Annecy - Albertville - Moutiers - Bourg St. Maurice - Tignes.
I haven't used a map the last couple of times.
If you're self-catering there are several supermarché on the way, the last 2 being in Bourg but bear in mind that they shut at 7.30.

All the times I've travelled from Geneva Airport to Tignes the minibus or coach has taken roughly this same route: http://tinyurl.com/7q4axg5

If you're going anytime soon make sure your vehicle has winter tyres AND snow chains - coming back from Tignes on NYE the Police were stopping cars going up the mountain towards Tignes (from as low down as Bourg S-M) and making people put their snowchains on or they were turned back.

Drove to Arc 1800 on Friday. We wouldn't have made it up from Bourg SM without winter tyres or chains, some serious snow up there at the moment. This weekend was my first time in proper powder. I can see what all the fuss is about now!

Thanks lads. Put the request in for snow chains. We've booked from the French side, and booked in the underground carpark.

oh, I am going to snowboard down some hills when I get there. Mark my words.

Oh aye, one more thing...

What's the realistic journey time, without poor conditions?

There's always a bit of traffic so 3.5 hours really. Just under 3 at a stretch with good conditions and no delays at all

Should take 21/2 to 3 hours.

A useful map for routes to the French side.

Must admit, last week with my bro driving I did think I was going to die a couple of times but we did make it in under 3 hours (Arc 1800).

He is a skiist though, and they're all speed & no style!

In our defence, we did hit rush hour in Annecy and there was some snow on the roads higher up, hence the finger shaped indentations in the dash board. Nothing tightens the sphincter quite like encountering snow in the fast lane when you're overtaking a truck.

Still reckon 21/2 hrs in good conditions to Tignes. Maybe we could have a 'fastest transfer leader board' thread.
