I'm heading to out to Morzine on Friday, first trip of the season
However, I've never been there before, and am only going to have 3 1/2 days on piste. So for those of you who know the resort well, what are the best spots to check out? From research I'm pretty sure the Stash park in Avoriaz will get a few laps, otherwise your suggestions are very welcome!
Cheers,
J |

| The Stash is THE most over rated run anywhere. Thing is unless you're a very very good freestyle rider, and im talking very good, then you wont really be able to ride many of the features in it, there are a few smaller boxe type logs to slide but most are pro standard. Most people just ride down it because its famous without actually hitting any of the rails. It can get proper packed down there because of that. |

| Not to mention all the annoying ski schools that run through it. The stash in Flachauwinkl is way better, still for more for the more experienced freestyler. |

i think the stash is good fun, spent all day in there start of the season when it was a white out everywhere else!
what are you looking for park, powder (if...) quiet slopes etc? |

Ok Debbie Downers I won't get my hopes up on the Stash!
Pete - I'm thinking some good fun intermediate parks, nice tree lined runs and some decent pow spots that won't require a guide. That would set me up nicely! |

| Head up to Arare and Fornets especially if there's fresh snow. |

I did a week in Avoriaz last year and returning this year end of Jan.
We mostly stayed up near in Avoriaz, here are my recommendations
The snowpark near the carpark in Avoriaz has just about every type of rail, kicker etc you could ask for, well worth a visit.
From the top of that park you can go over the other side of the mountain and it's the start of the stash. Which we really enjoyed, there's about 3 different ways through it so you can hit a bunch of different things each time. Some of the rails, boxes etc are insane, but there's still a fair bit of stuff to hit and it you want to test yourself trying something new then there's a few unusual shaped things in there. we are by no means pro riders but gave most things in there a go
If you don't go into the stash then there's Combe a Florets which is a nice blue tree lined run, it links into Parchets which you can take it all the way down to Ardent, the last section is ace for getting up some speed.
you can then ride up 3 lifts to get (D'Ardent, Lechere, Mossettes) then come down Les Cases/Abricotine this run is about 5km down to lift, great fun with good off-piste down the sides although last year we just didn't have the snow for it.
have a look at our vid if you like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQajjr5NMsY feel free to ask about anything on there you like the look of |

its the chapelle park near the car park in town, classed as the baby park, some nice kickers normally, not been there this year. from there you can get to the bigger park and the stash in about 10 minutes as well so for riding park its a good starting point.
dont rule out les gets if you get some snow as well, cant remember the name of the park up les gets (mont joly or something) but theres two lifts that go up from the top of the gondola, the one on the right goes to the park which is quite intermediate or the one on the left gives access to some easy off piste back down through the trees to base of the same lift We had loads of fresh tracks down there last week |

| Is this stuff all avoriaz side? I'm going with the family who are probably gonna want to stay in Morzine/les gets for the most part. Short of ditching them, what's my best bet for local shredding? |

the stuff I suggested was all Avoriaz but a few friends that were staying in Morzine came up to the Avoriaz side for a couple of their days and said it didn't feel too far. There's a green slope down the side of the chapelle park in Avoriaz (which is at the Morzine side of Avoriaz) and all the runs back down to Morzine are blues which are easy going so you could bring the family along. I went to Morzine to try paragliding and once you've got the mini cable car thing from the town centre I think it was just 2 chairs with a short blue inbetween to get to the top of the Avoriaz park.
sorry, can't offer any help for anything over the otherside of Morzine |

A few years ago I stayed at morzine with a friend and we rode mainly at Avoriaz with his (adult) children. It's easy to get to, but a long way, I think we're talking 30 mins or so on a lift and green run. Make sure you board is well waxed of you'll spend an awful lot of time with your back foot out.
tbh it's not a resort I'll ever return to, but if you get decent snow it's not bad, just be prepared to be unstrapping a lot as there are an awful lot of flat transfers compared with a lot of other resorts.
It's a common 'English' resort, so there will be a lot of people you can talk to at least. |

| If there is fresh snow then head to Mont Chery. It's in Les gets so you'd have to go down to Les Gets town, then get the free mini train and then go up Mont Chery. It hasn't got many runs but there is a good park and the runs down the back of the mountain are great when there's good snow. It's usually quiet too! Also if you get a full area pass then it's worth heading to the lindarets bowl, and up and over towards the Linga area (on way to Chatel). Some of the runs that way are really good and lots of runs to play around on! There's some great off piste areas around Linga as well. If the snow isn't the best then stick to Avoriaz and go up to the top of the Arare, and you can drop off the back and ride all the way down to the bottom of the Prodains lift. Hope some of this helps! |
