| I'm assuming when he refers to a forum TUI employee's post on, he's making reference to the Q&A style posts that are part of Crystals 'support' and not just another random non-official forum. |

lol that was some forum page!! i cant believe i read it all hahaha
But at the end i can conclude this for you all...This is now the policy -
If you pay for ski carriage you get
1 suitcase limited to 20kgs,
1 board/ski bag limited to 15kgs (you can put anything inside this)
and 1 carry on bag limited to 5kg (and of course the carry on size limits)
or if you want ,if you have paid the ski carriage you can take one coffin bag with everything in it and you are limited to 25kg for that bag ,but i cant think why you would do that because you are already paying the extra monies for the ski carriage ,but this way you will lose out on the other 10kg of weight you have allowed. |

Btw just for the record , at no point in any of my boarding holidays have i ever had my board bag checked for the contents, and i have flown with thomson before.
Infact they never even cared what the weight was either, one time my suitcase was about 5kgs over the weight, so seeing as my board coffin had been weighed and labelled first (you remove the board bag yourself from the conveyor after its been checked in to take it to oversized luggage) i right infront of the desk clerk put 5kg of gear from my suitcase into my boardbag (which was already at like 20kg in the first place btw) and they just smiled and took my suitcase and wished me a nice trip |

No one will ask to check the contents of your bag. Just make sure you're within the 20kgs + 15kgs limit and you'll be fine.
I'm flying with Thomson next Sunday and I intend to have 15kg worth of boards/boots/bindings/avi gear/etc in my coffin bag.
Even if you're slightly over, there are ways around it (balancing your coffin bag o another bag, putting more stuff in it between checking in a going to the oversized baggage drop off point, etc). |

| I still can't for the life of me work out what people are taking to need to worry about the total weight allowance. I went travelling for best of a year and had trouble getting my bag beyond the 30kg allowance I had for that trip! |

Quite easy to do if you are bringing equipment. Not snowboarding but over summer i went to croatia to work. I struggled to stay within 40kg with my scuba diving gear. |

Likewise it is quite easy. A park board, pow board, boots, bindings, protective gear, backcountry kit, tripod, lightstands and before you knwo it you've got 20kgs of kit in your board bag.
It is still easy to fit within the usual 32kg that the budget airlines give you though. |

| I can understand the problem if you're going for a season or doing something lie scuba and bringing your own gear. I'm obviously low tech as I just take one board, pair of boots and set of bindings and a camera that fits in a pocket! |

Hi all,
Reading all your threads, I am an experienced snowboarder, who has used budget airlines a lot when traveling to destinations in Europe. I have just booked to go to Borovets, Bulgaria with Thompson Ski & the following very useful link was on the holiday receipt page, please take a look;
http://www.thomsonski.co.uk/ski-extras/ ... allowance/
Ian quite concerned about their statement of paying 2 lots of ski carriage charges if you intend to take more than one snowboard as I have an all mountain & a park board!!

You're over-analysing the rules!
Last year I flew Thomson, twice before it was BA, and the year before that it was Air Canada.
All 4 times (and will be the same next month) I turn up at the airport with a Dakine Low Roller and a normal suitcase. My board bag has my board, bindings, boots, pants, gloves, thermals, impact shorts, knee pads etc.... all within 15kg. Then I have my suitcase style bag with all my usual clothes and my helmet - probably another 15kg.
At the airport the check-in person asks how many bags you're checking in. 2 please. You put the suitcase on the luggage belt and weigh it as per normal. You then point at the board bag - and they tell you it'll have to go to oversized baggage - which is usually at the end of the airport.
At no point do they weigh it, or open it.
Actually... I tell a lie! At one point I did have to open it at the oversize baggage counter. Only because I'd stashed a Leatherman in my boot and they wondered what it was!
As above - as long as you're sensible with the weights, you don't have to worry. You can easily get 2 boards, bindings, boots in a bag as long as you're within weight and they won't question it. |
