Hi all.
Just booked to go to Zell am See in Jan '12.
Does anyone have any tips for this resort. Good bars etc etc.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Also I've booked with Crystal using their bundle (area lift pass and carriage for £202) do you know if you can upgrade this for say , one day, to go across to Kaprun ?
Cheers |

Good choice - had a cracking time there back in march.
The Crazy Daisy is the pick of the bars for apres. The 2 Irish bars are a good laugh as well. For boarding, Kaprun has the pick of the runs. The lift pass covers both areas and there is a free bus that runs from the Zell town centre outside the post office. The bus gets pretty busy mind - I found the best one to get was either the first of second of the day or wait until 10ish. That way when you get to Kaprun you're not getting stuck in the busy queue to get the gondola/cable car up to the runs in Kaprun.
In terms of runs in Kaprun, there is some cracking cruising up on the glacier, good length intermediate runs, perfect for carving. The red from the midstation back to top of the gondola up is a great run as well (red 11 I think) though don't leave it too late as gets very busy.
For Zell, the left side of the mountain as you go up the gondola or cable car has the better runs. There is a cracking run from top station down right to Schuttdorf. The black down to the bottom of the CityExpress is also a good run, though pretty easy as blacks go I would say more of a red.
Hope this helps - be sure to take the day trip to Salzburg as well, beautiful city - well worth the add-on. |

| Yeah great little resort - tried to arrange a trip there this year but it didn't work out. I was going to make pretty much the same recomendations as Rob. Spent two days over in Kaprun but didn't do the Salzburg thing. You'll have a great time. |

| We are off to Kaprun end of Jan. we have also booked with crystal. The pass does cover both areas as said before. There are some good tips on tripadvisor for food/bars etc. Cannot wait as the conditions sound excellent at the moment, but known my luck there will be a huge thaw when we go. I am sure you will have a great time. Let us know how you get on once your back. Thanks. |

Cheers all.
I'm confused about the lift pass cause when booking with Crystal it offers 2 different types. Area and superior. And in the past when I've been to les Arcs you could only go across the La Plange if you had the more expensive lift pass. So I presumed this was similar.
Cheers. |

| Think you can get a regional pass that covers all the villages in the area. Only worth getting if you are there for longer and have your own car as some are hours by bus. That might be the superior, but do check with your operator. |

Hmmm I would check with Crystal on that - last year there was only one pass on offer that covered Zell and Kaprun. Might be the standard pass covers only Zell, or if the standard does cover Kaprun also, that superior covers Zell, Kaprun and Saalbach as well (you can do that as a day trip, though we didn't.)
If you've only got Zell covered, defo get the Kaprun upgrade. |

| Just got an email through from Crystal, they do a daytrip to Saalbach. There is loads of info in the pack, well worth a read. There is also the contact details for your local rep in there. Maybe worth an email just to confirm. |

Cheers Mark and everyone thats commented .
I've just had the email info pack from Crystal too .
Very Informative and a nice little addition from them to
give you a heads up before going .
Prob won't do the day thrip to Saalbach as I think they'll be enough to do in Zell and Kaprun but I'll do the Salzburg trip on the final day to save hanging around in the resort as suggested .
Cheers. |
