So I ventured into town today hoping that I'd miss the spasticated rush of middle aged women desperately trying to cling on to that bit of reduced clothing from M&S/John Lewis/Next or whatever shops they go to as I needed to pay in the xmas pennies at the bank.
So anyway, to my horror when I go to leave and visit the carpark pay station the ques are almost as mammoth as the great wall of China. So with it being 5pm I decided id just wander and have a look about until they died down as i thought everyone would be leaving now.
On my travels I went to TK Max and checked out there ski and snowboard wear. Turns out they have a pretty reasonable selection of stuff in there including a load of surfanic stuff including, jackets, trousers, gloves, and even goggles
Ive only used surfanic gloves which ive got a pair of and are really good so cant comment on what the rest of the stuff is like but it was pretty cheap.
I even managed to pick up a nice Rossignol beanie for £6, bargain!
Well worth checking out if your in need of a spare pair of trousers or anything thats not high fashion |

Uh oh, this risks opening the whole can of worms about TK Maxx putting local shops out of business, not offering exchanges etc etc.......!!!!!!!
They certainly stock a lot of the lower budget brands - Surfanic, Trespass, D2B etc. For higher end stuff, on their website they are advertising quite a lot of Quiksilver stuff and I have seen Westbeach, Kjus and Spyder gear in there in the past as well. Certainly bargains to be had if you're in the right place at the right time and good if you're just starting out and what the basics to see if you're going to be into snowsports or not.
Of course thats all depending on if you can live with your conscience..... |

I cant imagine TK max will do local shops out of much business so i wont be loosing any sleep
I'd imagine that'll be down to larger chains like 2 seasons and larger shops with online capability.
A lot of times though places dont have independent shops and so people can only go to places like 2 seasons or ellis brigham |

I've got some bargains from my local TKMaxx in the last couple of months..
Quiksilver Exit Gore-Tex (w/ RECCO) Jacket
Quiksilver Mathieu Crepel Riding Shirt
Quiksilver Neon Adikt (Limited Edition) Hooded Gilet
Nike 6.0 (packable) Gilet
Haven't seen any Westbeach so far, but have seen loads of last seasons Quiksilver Utility Collection and Sessions and DC snowboards jackets/pants. Also, had in some high end Quiksilver stuff e.g. Mathieu Crepel and Candide Thovex signature line jackets and gloves. |

Thought someone mentioned on here that Westbeach decided not to dump their stock to TK Maxx this year (as they have in the past) - so probably why they've not been spotted.
Not to upset the local shop, but if it get's ppl on the slope and enjoying the sport we love then all the better - buy from TK Maxx, Aldi, wherever. At the end of the day the local shop will lose more business to online shops (especially those that offer SCUK discounts) than TK Maxx which only has decent-ish stock for 1 - 2 months a year.
Had a butchers in the Stockport branch at the start of Sep and there were some decent Quicksilver tops for about £30 (none in my size tho) and some v v nice ones for about £100 (so, not really impulse buys). |
