Hi Guys

There seems to be some good last minute self catering deals to alpe d'huez at start of jan. Im just wondering what food and drink prices are like. Dont want to get there and everything to cost a fortune.

Cheers

The first SCUK winter bash was to Alpe d'hues, it's not particularly expensive but as a main resort the restaurants on the slope are not exactly cheap.

It's a great hill but chances are food and beers won't be that easy on the wallet...

It's cheap, a great all-round hill and LOTS of easy access off-piste...

Plenty of great riding, guiding, grub and beers without the hefty Alp pricetag.

its probably not as cheap as you sound like you're wanting, but base that against the cheap deals your getting. was there in March, the snow conditions weren't great (anywhere) but still had a great trip!

Head to Captain Sandwich (down beside the open air swimming pool) for lunch each day. You'll get a huge filled baguette and a drink for around 10 euros Smile

I went a few years back and compared to Val D'isere, it wasn't any cheaper (Val is regarded as expensive BTW).

Good resort, easy to fin your way around, and there were some good bars (although I can't remember the names!!! Smile) I'm sure there was a rum bar (the rhummery?).

Did a review here:

I went in March 2009 so the Euro has changed a bit - think it was 1:1 between the pound and the Euro back then, so it's slightly better value now.

We were paying between #6-7 for a beer, although I paid €9 for a pint of Guinness that wasn't very good. A couple of the bars did drinks promotions but they changed each night. There were a lot of happy hour deals before 6pm where it was buy a beer, get one free.

A for eating, we were in a hotel so only ate out on the slopes. Food on the mountain wasn't any different in price to anywhere else I'd been Smile

It ain't that bad in resort, it's like any French resort, if a bar looks expensive it probably is. The more informal 'British' bars arnt too bad at all.

There are some great bars on the main drag that arnt gonna break the bank. Just get yourself a few beers from the supermarket to keep the cost down.

Could show you where they are, as for their names, can't remember (too pissed)!

Smithy's, O'Sharkeys and Underground are the main "British" bars, but there are plenty of others worth a visit.

Can't really comment on normal prices, as I always got hooked up with seasonnaire prices when I was working at events in ADH.

Smithy's and o'Sharkeys ring a bell !

Which is the one where you can take either the stairs or the slide to the toilet ( great fun , sliding down the stairs and walking back up the slide )

All I remember was Le Pub and a kebab shop with a huge dog sat at the counter. Spent the whole week steaming

Le Pub. Rings a bell Smile

Wasn't there a rum bar or something? I'm thinking 'rhummery', although that might be a sex position I read about.....
