Do I need both of these?
Last time that's what we did as I understood that you needed the carre neige for the mountain recovery crew / helicpoter etc, but a family member had to be helicoptered off a mountain last year and his standard annual holiday insurance covered the costs.
I don't want to spend even more cash if it's not necessary. |

| I went with the SCUK insurance and although i was confident i was covered still forked out the 4CHF extra a day on the lift pass just for peace of mind, for the sake of the cost of coke better to be safe than sorry. |

| Do you pay car insurance every year , hoping to use it ??? NO .... its peace of mind bud , you cant put a price on health etc , if you dont you will have to stump up money and then claim back etc ..... its a NO BRAINER |

Well I paid in the end and thankfully didn't need it .
My point is though that I have a credit card, I can pay and then claim it back, if indeed that's how it works. If all the Carre Neige insurance does is removes the need to pay up front then in my opinion it's not necessary.
If however the SCUK insurance will not cover the expenses covered by the Carre Neige then it is necessary... |

| You can pay and claim it back. Couple of years ago friend of mine broke his heel in Meribel and travelled down the mountain in the blood wagon. When I went into the ski patrol to retrieve his skis which they were holding as a deposit I didn't have his lift pass with me so couldn't say for certain if he'd paid the extra bit on the lift pass. Ended up paying them 300 odd Euros to release his skis which he then claimed on his travel insurance and refunded to me. Saying that if it's 300 Euros for two blokes and a sledge god knows what they charge you for the helicopter! |

i'd at least get it for the children. trying to explain to someone that doesnt speak any english that you dont have it but your preparred to pay for the lift would I imagine be quite stressful.
as you say, you might have a credit card, to put it on, but i'm not sure what interest you'd end up paying on a 40k bill when it takes them 6 months to settle |

| Your insurance will cover you to get you off the mountain if needed. Carre neige is just a top up and is less of a hassle as if you do have an accident, they will whisk you straight off once they see it, rather than with your insurance, having to pay, and then claiming it back. |

| Never heard of the Carre Neige. Is it specific to certain resorts or a France-wide thing? I've certainly never been offered any 'upgrade' to my lift pass to cover blood wagons etc. |

| I've always got my pass through the holiday company I booked with and not once have I been asked if I want to add insurance. Is it something you only get if you buy your pass yourself? |

| Some of the tour companies do offer it and think I've had a couple try and sell it to me when I've said I'm happy to rely on my insurance. The tour company still gets its cut for bulk buying lift passes. |
