Lucky to be off snowboarding twice this year so I am finally going to invest in my own set up.
Im 5ft 6 and ~13stone, I have been away 3 weeks in Tignes with a good bit of time in the domes off and on. I dont want anything too focused yet so looking at an all mountain board
I think I have almost read too much into the tech and I need to buy something I like and not get bogged down in the detail.
So I demoed a yes basic, bataleon Goliath and evil twin.
I have the Goliath 153 on order, enjoyed the board and gets great reviews.
Big question is bindings,
Braehead don't have a demo fleet so Im going on reviews really. I have always liked to look of Union Forces and the engineering vibe of the company. They dont seem to get the rave reviews they did a few years ago tho.
Guys in TSA told me to go for Flux which seem to get good reviews but I cant shake my want for Union even tho I havent tried them.
So my questions really are-
Should I go with the Bataleon Goliath? I can still change it!
Stick with my gut and get forces or go for something else?
Need to buy by Thursday too!
Any thoughts would be helpful!
Cheers

Well ive got a pair of 10/11 Union Forces in L/XL (9+) and in Cyan.
They are fantastic bindings - comfortable enough, responsive, decent flex, very well made and they look pretty decent, but as i said in my post on the FS section, i just didnt bond with them - they are a bit clinical for my liking, and i had them on a Bataleon Aerobic which is a damn fun board!
If you want a pair in the original box, with stickers, documents, etc etc that are in perfect condition but dont want to spend the money on a new pair, then drop me a PM.
I have Flux Titan RK's and Ride Contrabands as well as the Forces at the moment, and i adore both those bindings big time |

I think you'd get away with 8.5's - the size guide is only a rough thing anyway - depends on the size of the boots footprint too!. Still, there was plenty of room with my 9's so you'll be fine!
Anyway, im sure your feet will grow

| I'm also in the process of looking for boards and thinking of similar boards! I've demoed the Evil twin but not the Goliath yet. just wondering why you prefer the Goliath over the ET? |

Dewei, to be honest I didn't think there was too much in it. The TBT on the Goliath is a bit skinnier down the middle so is supposed to be worse for board slides and that.
To be honest couldnt really decide so went for the Goliath as its more all mountain orientated. |

I'll try to demo both tomorrow! |

| The new ET has a faster sintered base over previous seasons extruded, the main difference though is the shape, ET is a true twin Goliath is a directional twin. Both great boards for all mountain but the ET a little more freestyle/park oriented and the Goliath a little more of a charger, I've seen plenty of both all over the mountain. Bindings I use Rome Targas on my Jam and Airobic but I've had Flux TT30 recommended for the Jam and RK30 for the Airobic |

From Evil Twin to The Evil Kers
@smegger
I went to the TSA expecting to buy the Evil Twin. My heart was already set on it. I love the graphics. I demoed it a few weeks ago. Within 2-3 turns Bataleon Evil Twin made me feel I could catch no edge and I could charge down even faster. It seemed easy enough to carve but felt rather vague when flatbasing it and on approaching park features.
I left it a bit late for demoing (got carried away with nailing a trick). Given the enthusiastic description in the TSA catalogue as well another website, I asked to try the Head The Evil Kers Flamba (what a mouthful!). I just had 15-20 mins but the responsiveness was a revelation. I was carving with ease - nice tight turns. The board was so eager to carve and change edge (Flamba shape). Kers technology means that it has microchips that transfer vibration energy into stiffening the board when ollieing and carving hard (!). This can be only tested on the real mountain and I'm rather dubious of that. Very briefly tried on the box. I found it to be stiff and buttering difficult.
I then went on the Evil Twin but I only got one run. This time, I didnt like the ET. Not sure why? Did I need more time to readjust to the TBT before liking it again? I just didnt feel I had much edge control compared to the Head!
With my heart still longing for the Evil Twin, my head chose The Evil Kers etc. I feel no attachment to the graphics at all and the brand is not 'cool' but the ride won it for me! It is also somewhat stiffer that I originally intended and I'll have to bring my Forum Youngblood to the mountains as well.
As a noob, I am still discovering what type of riding I like and what kind of board suits me. Seems to be a trial and error process to me. |

i'd quite like to try that head board, and i'd say the fact that not everyone on the moutain is riding it and its an informed purchase makes it cool |

Yeh, I did want to be a little bit different.
I have tried 6 boards in the last month but I wonder if my own riding form on the day affected my judgement. |

Well I went for the Goliath, the guys in tsa convinced me to go for contact pros over the forces.... all I can say is LIGHT I can't quite get over it! Went and gave it a go for an hour and to be honest I am really happy with my choice! Plus bindings that match make you 10 times better at snowboarding FACT!
I was really interested in the HEAD KERs last year didnt even enter my head this year I am sure its a really good board. To be honest I think some times there is too much choice and all the boards are pretty good.
Get some pics up of the new set-up! Time to forget about all the choices and enjoy some snowboarding! |
