| I can ride black runs fine and reds with ease. Can do a few tricks but haven’t rode switch much. Have snowboarded for two weeks and have been sold a k2 brigade, at the time it seemed a good purchase but I am wondering now whether I should have bought this. I would define myself as a confident intermediate is aiming to progress quickly. I may be worrying too much but I'd like to know whether this board will be a hindrance. Thanks |

Well, how heavy are you, and how long is the board?
Brigade is a decent all mountain board as far as I know.
I've been riding for 5 years and I'd hesitate to call myself intermediate...regardless of ability I'd call 2 weeks on snow a beginner personally. |

| I'm 85 kilos and actually yeah I am a beginner sorry that probably sounded quite arrogant. It's just when boards are described as beginner boards I assumed it would mean you struggle to link turns etc so it must be the case my definition of beginner is wrong, sorry. Anyway is this board good for me? Thanks |

158 is probably about right for all mountain.
"Beginner" boards are usually more forgiving, quite mellow to ride, directional and sometimes use cheaper construction or have less tech to bring them down to a lower price point.
You will find that you progress beyond your first board after a time, you may decide you like freestyle and go down that route by upgrading to a freestyle specific board, or that you want something with a faster base and slightly stiffer for hooning around.
Same with boots and bindings really, "beginner" stuff is softer and more forgiving, absorbing mistakes in technique rather than amplifying them.
As you gain more control over the board, stiffer boots etc allow for more precise control.
At least thats my understanding |

| Haha yeah I think it looks great. It's got lime green salomon rhythm bindings with it and perfectly colour coordinated. I like the idea of doing a fair bit of jibbing on it but I'm just wondering how damaging it generally is for the board? I was thinking mainly boxes. |

as branny says, don't be too precious with it, tools not jewels
snowboard bases are pretty tough, and most light damage can be taken out with a DIY ptex repair or having a base grind done...but by the time your board has seen enough action to need one you won't care and will just keep riding it.
The lure of new gear, and regular waxing wears off after a while |

Yeah I'm still in the initial awe stage of owning the board. I mess around with it on the carpet and get scared I'm going to damage it aha. Unfortunately being a poor student means a new snowboard is not really a great option but then again I'm sure if the new board was shiny enough I could afford it |

Haha yeah ultimately you're going to end up in ridiculous debt anyway. Why not add a new board to that list as well |

to many people treat their boards like a fragile vase.... most boards these days are well made, and will take most abuse that you can through at it
a rock just under the snow will do more damage than a well made box or rail.
and if you knack it up.... a new board for next year
exactly,
for a good example watch the dvds, the helgasons newbie is a good one, if you watch some and see the stuff they do to them and are still ridable (to our standards where a new boards isnt available free!) one clip i saw someone pretty much fold the board in half stalling on a roof lip! i thought he was in for some serious nut trauma!
edited for poor spelling. |
