Hi guys,
Me and a couple of mates are booking a holiday for the 1st week in feb and we cannot decide between Laax in Switzerland or Ischgl, Austria. Has anybody been to either or both who could give me there recomendations?
Has anyone also tried the freestyle academy in Laax? Is it any good?
Thanks in advance. |

| Freestyle Academy is amazing... having said that we were only spectating. We hope to include a visit for the SCUK Brits bash later in the year. I've only ever been to Laax for the Brits, which is not a typical week, but the mountain is great, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. if you can, stay in rocksresort. |

Boarding a 'plane at 7:55pm tonight to Zurich for a weekend in Laax, so I'll let you know how it is when I'm back.
As for Ischgl, I was there last season. For a group of mates it's amazing - lots and lots and lots of apres and drinking, even by Austrian standards. Also a couple of strip clubs if you're into that sort of stuff, but they're easy to avoid.
The snow was excellent when we were there in March, with plenty of accessible off-piste action.
You can ride into Samnaun, Switzerland on the so-called duty-free run and it's common to see people riding/skiing with cartons of cigarettes sticking out of their rucksacks.
Galtur is just a short bus journey away if you want to mix it up a bit, too. It's quiet but has nice, well-maintained slopes.
It's a great resort and I look forward to going back there again. |

Ischgl over Laax, purley on the exchange rate, the Euro is pretty sh1t, the Fanc is diabolical 1.30CHF to the £.
Jake was in Laax last week, hotdog, chips, and a coke 27chf |

| Not been to Laax but Ischgl is amazing. I've not been anywhere better for a holiday with mates. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and I've never spoken to so many locals anywhere else before, especially in the bars afterwards, which are pure mad. The hill is pretty sweet too. |

Sorry, forgot to post an update!
Laax was amazing. There was no snow 2 weeks before we left, but by the time we got there we had so much pow to play in. Here's a shot from my iPhone: http://i.imgur.com/Y8XbC.jpg and here's a still from my goggle cam: http://i.imgur.com/BcXr7.jpg
We lucked out with the snow for sure!
As for the resort, there's a lot of good places to go out. We stayed in the Riders Palace, and when we turned up at 1am there was a full-on party in the reception area with DJs. The walls are surprisingly thick, though, so if you do want to go get some sleep it's not difficult.
As for cost, it's pretty much the same as most places in Switzerland at the moment. I had lasagne up the mountain, with a roll and a beer and it came to 16CHF. Not sure where the 27CHF for a hotdog came from! Beer was around 7-8CHF depending on where you bought it.
The resort wasn't fully open when we were there (due to the lack of snow only 2 weeks before), so the parks were mostly shut aside from a couple of rails. I was more than happy digging myself out of waist-deep powder to care!
Any other Qs feel free to ask. I can't really compare it to Ischgl as a) the entirety of Ischgl was open whereas I only got to board on around 15% of the resort in Laax, and b) I was on skis (sssh!) in Ischgl. |
