I stopped buying mags a while ago - they're all so bloody expensive with very little in return. Especially when you can get tons of content on the internet these days.

Whitelines would def be my rag of choice though - whenever I do read one I'm more often than not engaged by the written stuff. It's always a nice surprise to find a nice article that captures the sport.

I deal quite a lot with one of the big publishers...advertising is key, they write articles to spec pretty much, the more you pay, the more control you have...the journalism isn't great, but then the journos are not well paid....no ideological young guns to be seen...and as a result, the magazines are at best an absorbant liner for your cat litter tray.

The problem is, that the people writing the content don't actually understand or care about the subject matter..they are just getting paid (and not very much either).

Online genuinely is the future, but probably not in the way that the publishers want - we all love to read content from people who care, be it blogs, indy sites or forums who are not bogged down in advertising and have the freedom to be opinionated, to say that some stuff sucks, etc, etc.

That said, if anyone wants to start a mag and needs a copywriter...call me Wink

it is nice though to be able to flick through a mag whilst on the train/ plane etc but there is just so much out there on the internet its gonna be hard to keep pushing forward with the mags unless the good features are there.

completely agree ... all snowboard press is absolute dross these days, half GQ style fashion bollox, the other half crammed full of the same old photo's ad's and piss poor storys about some crue and a no name pro or two backpacking around eastern europe.

They really need to step up their game or have they already surrendered to the online age.

The internet has changed things for print as well as music. "Print" is a little behind the curve. People do still buy magazines ... that's the weird thing.

Magazine content isn't what it was? I thought that was just me getting old. But then the revenue stream can hardly be what it was. How many copies are they selling?

Maybe the way to look at it is as a positive thing - there's lots of stuff online now, and there's quality there if you look for it.

Here's the first issue of TWS. Online, free. That was then, this is now... there's still plenty to do.

Coming from a surfing background I've seen the those mags do exactly the same thing. funnily enough factory media's offerings, Surf Europe and surfers path are slim on content and heavily Americanised. The uk offerings followed suit and i haven't picked one up in years. Quite like http://www.methodmag.com/ although you still have to wade through the ads and crap for the gold dust but its free!

By far the best magazine ive EVER read is Transworld Snowboarding from the US

I picked it up in a french air-port a few years ago (and Ive still got it)
I know you can get it over here if your willing to pay big money for a subscription (which I'm not).

If I could afford it I would deffo buy it and cant reccomend it enough....ive given up on whitelines lately, dont know why its just lost its appeal for me Smile

transworld?? really, that piece of toilet paper, adverts and payed editorial full garbage (in my opinion haha)

I had also lost a little love for WL..but have to say the 100th issues is a banger... i've had every issue since number 1... and do feel that they have got a little serious over the years... but as the only remaining stalwart of the UK shred magazine world they'll still keep getting my cash Smile
