I'm hoping for a bit of UK action but not wanting to travel a million miles. The I have a few days off next week and hoping for a dumping over the weekend so has anyone been to any of these? Which one would be the best? I obviously weather depending.

Yadmoss and allenheads are quite easy to get to but to get to swinhope after a dump the club reckon you need a 4x4 or snow chains. Allenheads only has rope toes but yadmoss has a poma, which is quite savage. The only time I went I saw a skier fly about 3m from the launch, and many boarders ( including me) fail to get up.

Well I have neither snow chains nor a 4x4 so that rules out one. And I think I'm ok on pomas, and although I've never went on one that proper launches people though...

You'll queue for 30mins before you even get on the poma.

It is a savage beast tho. Most people have trouble with the uneven ground where the poma takes off from. Not only does it launch you in the air you have to land on lumpy bumpy ground on a track about 2ft wide, so if you're not comfortable on your board you'll be off it and on your ass

That's exactly what I do at yad moss, although it has as much to do with the wait as it does the fact that despite being fine with pomas at Cas, Mayrhofen and Bansko, I have never made it more than 20m at Yad Moss! Weardale on the other hand is a doddle compared.

One thing to be aware of: Weardale only take day members during the week (weekends are for season members only) and Yad Moss give priority to season members, so if you're not a member get there early to make sure you get a ticket. I've never tried Allenheads so I don't know what their system is.

Both weardale and yadmoss are great hills to ride but you have kind of missed the boat both sold out of season tickets weeks ago. To stand any chance of riding yad you will need to get there by 9am and hike up and wait for them to open ticket office. Me and Julie are season ticket holders for weardale, so we will be up there as often as the snow falls
