Asked a similr Q on another forum and didnt get much response...so lets see if you guys have any thoughts...
Have been googling back protection options after a bit of a bruising at a local dome last week, and had a thought...
Any reason getting a motorcycle back protector insert, which are way cheaper than full back protection rigs (e.g. 23 quid for a forcefield insert vs 80 or so for full rig), and sticking it in the hydration pouch of a small backpack wouldn't work? Maybe wack a little velcro in there to secure and keep the hipbelt strap done tight?
This way, you can take the protector on and off easily (lunch on the slopes etc), no-one has to know you're wearing one, and, its feckin cheap....
Can anyone poke a hole in my logic? |

| Yeah, reckon full body paralysis is unlikely to result from adding a back protector to your kit! |

Yeah, you should be fine to be honest - its just getting a camelpack bag thats big enough - i have a demon one and it covers only half my back.
That said, you'd have to make sure its secured - i dont suppose, anything would happen, but if the panel shifted and put more pressure on your spine in a fall, anything could happen (think that guy who posted a couple of weeks ago about the plastic cap shattering some vertebrae)
I think there is a reason they are super expensive, so perhaps its not the best idea, that said, coming from a guy who made a splitboard that actually works as twintip skis, i wouldnt pay much attention to the negative comments. Just do it, and let us know how it works |

I have been looking at something similar but I keep weighing up the pros and cons and coming back with the argument that £100 that prevents me becoming paralysed is a sound invesment.
Still cannot decide which back protector to go for though, sorry to highjack but any ideas? |

| Personally I find my old Dakine backpack with a spare fleece and a camel pack and a few other odds and ends in it seems to prevent bruising my back when falling over! |

yeah, my snowboard specific dakine rusksack has a cool-pocket in it, with thin but dense padding that stops me from getting bruised too, whack something in that pocket and id be fine, perhaps this suggested idea of using an insert will work! |

| If you want DIY why not just sew something on to a tight fitting T shirt? My first butt-protector was homemade and worked a treat. |

Thats a idea too, except i think id want to be able to take it off when i went into a bar to get chips, so an in-a-bag idea would be better i think |

Im going to email them asking for the dimensions, and if it fits in the pocket in my snowboard bag ill buy one. Matching colour too (not that that matters in any way, it was purely an observation)

I bought this one the other day in black.
http://www.blue-tomato.com/en/Protector ... =300568814
I got an email saying it had been shipped on Tuesday - so it should arrive in the next couple of days. I had emailed Icetools about it, and its a soft one - so it shouldn't be too uncomfortable. Much like the Forcefield one, but built into a vest rather than a backpack style.
Typically, Bluetomato sent me a 20 off any purchase of over 100 a few days after I ordered it! |
