I am putting together a brief presentation on indoor snow manufacture. My research suggests you need to monitor, temperature, humidity and air pressure to produce snow. Does anyone know how/if this is monitored/acheived indoors in regards to humidity and air pressure? I can't see air pressure being sustainable indoors to be honest. any thoughts?
Thanks |

It's more sustainable indoors than outdoors though!
Why don't you ask the slopes? If you can find a contact for him (Facebook hint), then Jack Nesgos is your man for this sort of thing as he used to be in charge of the snow at MK, then Madrid and now in the UAE (I think) and is an all round good chap. Failing that contact Malcolm Clulow at Acer SnowMec in B'ham. |

Quote:
"There are several systems for making snow indoors
Our system is a grown in flight system which basically atomises liquid water droplets into a below freezing environment where the air is also below 100% humidity
No need to control air pressure
We have devised a special cooling system that does not require dehumidification so is quite simple in operation
The snow crystals grow in flight through air at minus 6 Deg Centigrade and fully metamorph before landing
We operate at minus 1.5 Deg C normally
The snow makers are specially designed for indoor use to make particles between 10 and 50 microns diameter (outdoor snow makers make 250 to 500 microns)
We also cool the floor to create constructive metamorphism in the 500mm base of snow to maintain the quality this also provides a useful thermal store to cut plant size and reduce running costs
We use hot and cold energy recovery to help capital and running costs
Energy use is less than an office building
I hope this helps
Malcolm Clulow"

I did a similar thing for my dissertation also. This is a good read if Malcolm hasn't sent it to you already... its a PDF that Malcolm wrote about indoor snowmaking - should be right up your street
