Just come across this rather handy looking application.
http://www.alpinereplay.com/landing
You can download it for iPhone and Android phones. Track your runs all day and then upload to view on the web. Set challenges with mates for speed, distance and all that.
Best of all it's free! Anyone else have this or used it yet? |

I used this for a couple of days whilst in Austria. It has some amazing stats. What's better is you can login online and challenge your mates to challenges for highest speed, highest average etc.
You can view my data here: http://www.alpinereplay.com/me?id=3894
It seems much better than any of the other mountain logging software I've used. Anyone else use this? Would be perfect for the SCUK race for everyone to enter the challenge. I've also noticed they do a reply of your runs using Google Earth. It's all very clever. |

Looks good.
I've just looked it up on the phone and it says a wireless or data connection is required to run the app. Is this all the time or just when uploading/viewing your runs? |

Basically you run the application on the mountain and log your data. You then need a wireless connection (or use your data) to 'upload' the stats to the website. They do data cleansing etc to make sure you don't have any glitches, like 200mph runs. It's all instant and online and available.
At first it's a pain in the ass due to applications like skitracks being instant stats, but when you start challenging your mates to competitions it gets much more interesting |

| Ahh right, Guessing you have to upload at the end of each day though? Or can you log each day and upload it when you get home? |

Scrap that, a dry run has answered my question. If you pause it and then close the app, the next time you long in it tells you that you have files pending and waiting to be uploaded, but you can still record another run.
Worth a go! |

yep exactly. You can either upload at the end of each day, or do it all when you get home. I was doing mine at the end of each day. But only used it a couple of times. Was good for going for top speeds! Had a friendly competition with my brother |

| so,just to clarify, if you just use it to track and don't upload whilst abroad, it doesn't cost anything to use? |

| That's correct. You just push the big play button and it used GPS to track your data. You can see total time and max speed. Then you get all the other data when you push send, but you need an internet connection to do that. |

You're getting mixed up with GPRS - which is a slower version of 3G. |

And *I think* the early "GPS" on smart phones that triangulated via antennas, not satellites. Could well be wrong though.
Does the airtime actually work? Pretty impressive if they can accurately do that surely? |

| It's only on Android phones. No idea if it works though. I assume so, but how accurate it is I've no idea. |
