Hi a question I am now asking myself after ridemons comment which got me thinking.,
"Establish a motive and then ask yourself why, where and how before jumping in deep"
I snowboard because.. its fun!! at the minute its also a challenge which im sure will continue, and I can't wait for the time I can fly down a mountain without pooing my pants so to speak!
the reason for the post is to get some other views on true motives for riding |

In recognition that some people do indeed look ‘cool’ when they ride, I figure that by association I, too, will be considered cool if I present myself as a snowboarder. Unfortunately, there is some significant disparity between what I figure and what Mrs GoodOldBoy apparently observes..
It’s still the most fun thing I’ve ever done though….and at 55 years of age (56th birthday in Val Thorens this coming Feb) I’m really rather chuffed that I’m still able to ride……albeit rather badly…
Great fun in an awesome environment......That's It, That's All !! |

| It's the 2nd best thing after riding motocross. Seriously fun and at the age of 26 only been boarding for 5 years (although I'm broken at the mo) when I'm on that board it's one of the best feelings there is. The freedom of that mountain during last lift be it with mates or on my own it's simply awesome |

| ...I was too scared to get back on skis after a nasty accident but wanted to get back on the mountain. Now I wish I had started off snowboarding instead of skiing because the thrill is so much better! |

..... because if theres something more amazing i aint found it yet.
theres nothing like the feeling you get at the top of the mountain with not a cloud in the sky, sun burning your face, and just riding a foot deep of powder.
boarding makes me forget about the problems in life and its the only place i really feel cut off from everything and 100% clear headed. when im on a hill its me the board and the tunes. nothing else. |

Because chicks dig it. It's cool. I look cool.
Seriously, it's hard to explain, it's just one of those things, like breathing, that I feel I have to do to live.. |

| Someone sat in a T bar at work said I can't come on the boys winter holiday and ski so I learnt to snowboard. |

I like snowboarding as it allows me to extend my love of queuing in new places.
Queuing at the post office or at the bank in England was brilliant, but I was always looking for that extra hit, a bigger queue in a bigger place.
The queues on the mountain are amazing, waiting for the funicular or a popular chairlift during a busy day are on a next level, you can be standing there for 30, maybe even 50 minutes in the freezing cold
I tend to only bring a snowboard so I don't stand out much, I'm only there to wait in the lines |

Fancied a change from the clubbing holidays I'm used to and decided there are other things in this world I wanted to do while I was young and to ski down the alps was one of them (didn't know you could ski at any age at that time lol). Then I decided that I'm far too cool for skis and started boarding. Most surreal experience and most fun I've had in my adult life. Gives me a chance to really shed the shackles of the monotonous rat race and leave everything behind. A glimpse of what life could be like if I ever plucked up the courage to unplug fro the plan and live life. Alas, I'm too much of a coward to leave a career I've worked towards behind and become a beatnik/hippy type or accept the financial risk of ruin involved in setting up a commercial venture that would allow me to spend time travelling or on the mountain.
In summation, it's an escape. A rare chance to recapture a little freedom from a life I never imagined I'd be living when I was a teenage rebel and idiot.
Maybe I'm romanticising a bit - I've had very little sleep - it's all so emo-sh! |
