Just seen that the Ski Club are running a series of avalanche awareness lectures across the UK in conjunction with The North Face and hosted at various Snow + Rock stores:
https://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/eskis ... itemID=360

I realise it's not a substitute for actual hands-on training but as I've never done any form of avalanche awareness training I feel it's probably well worth the £7 fee.

Anyone done anything like this or can recommend a better use of my £7??

That's what I was thinking. Plus it's an excuse to go down for the day and get some more practice in Smile

yep, even if i never use it, i think its pretty interesting stuff to learn. I saw a video with bryan iguchi digging pits of snow and wish i understood what he was on about so i figured its worth 7 quid. I'm booked on at that place that i've been trying not to mention.

I would, it can always help. I went to one at MK the HAT (henrys avalance talk).

Was really good and gives you a good base of knowledge. Might head to this as well!

The MK presentation was a great intro to off-piste safety. Well worth checking them out. I have more off-piste info in our knowledge centre if your interested.

It would be great if all these avalanche talks didn't totally miss out Yorkshire... I keep hoping that there will be one that isn't miles away but keep being disappointed.

Was at S&R for the north face avalanche awareness lecture tonight. Well presented, with decent and manageable amounts of information.

A link to a video they used...don't want to spoil it if you're going to a future event. But for anyone interested.

This is Johno Verity caught in an avalanche back in '08
