if it's 24 inch its a mountain bike
you'll be riding racers with high-vis vest and sock straps if you carry on along this path |

Depends what you wanna do. It's been a while since was properly into the scene and when I speak to my old riding friends (who are pro's now!) I'm considered a dinosaur lol.
I used to ride street with only a sprinkle of park and dirt so can only help if that's the sort of thing you're after. TBH the tech has moved so far that the new bikes would probably suit just about anything. Lightweight is the new black so there has been a resurgence of silly things like plastic pedals but I personally don't bother with them. Magnesium/aluminium stuff damages VERY easily too so I'm weary of that. Titanium is out there and I'm told it's okay but I just stick to anything that's plain old 4130 alloy. Just make sure that the whole frame is 4130 and not a selection of tubes or front triangle only. Also try to find something that has simple welds rather than silly wishbones and things like that.
You can't go wrong with any of the rider owned big names like Standard, S&M, Kink, Eastern, Fit, Federal (yuck!), McNeil etc but I've always had a soft spot for WeThePeople and FBM for some reason. I'm hearing good things about some of the newer companies like fly and stolen.
I wouldn't go lower than a 20.5 top tube but I personally like 20.75 and I'm a short ar5e. |

ah ok good stuff... was looking at just getting a complete to start with, I have seen some last seasons bike with good deals on them. from the manufacturers that you mentioned. so I'll post some ideas when I've had a look.
Oh and as for riding style it'll be dirt tracks. no skateparks! they're for skateboards |

| Mountain bike? Nooooo. Now I know it's difficult to distinguish between a 24" bmx and a 24" mountain bike, but it's definitly not a mtb. It's a cruiser, plain and simple. |
