Just watched the second episode in the series. Absolutley bloody awesome.
David Attenborough and the BBC team he works with are quite simply the best film makers ever! You could watch them and just say they're nature films so what, but each of his shows are the best things on tv!
They make me laugh more than any modern comedy show, they put me on the edge of my seat more than any crime thriller, and put a lump in my throat or a tear in my eye far more than the most tearjerking film that you might watch.
Seeing that seal being caught by the killer whales in the first episode nearly had me crying, and I was biting my fingernails and on the edge of my seat when the whales were getting close to those penguins!
Awesome television. Worth the BBC licence fee on its own! |

Totally agree, the program is beautifully shot, fantastically well editted and Attenborough's narration brings everything together.
Personally, my favourite bit is the last 10 minutes where it shows the lengths the film crews go to just to get the footage - i guess i like documentary-style behind the scenes on documentaries haha (deeper )
Still, the footage of those Killer Whales was insane - i want to watch the episode again right now!
Sat thing is, i doubt there will be many more of these style programs - we can only hope that they continue to use Cineflex camera's and go back to un-charted rainforest and explore - those 3 episodes of 'expedition bourneo' a few years ago with Steve Backshaw was brilliant - i guess its a massive budget though, but axe casualty and/or holby city and tell the eastenders cast to get proper jobs and we'll be away
Kinda makes me want to be a wildlife cameraman, but i have no idea how to get into it and i fear its already too late - perhaps ill do a bit of research one day, but for now i just want to sleep |

I've been down to Antarctica and it was amazing... you become amazing blase to having penguins, seals and all manner of whales just all around you. We were jumping off icebergs, went into a place called deception island (an old flooded volcano), and saw endless mountains of untouched snow... vexingly there are only a few areas you are allowed to go (particularly snowboarding), very frustrating looking at endless untouched powder and not being able to ride it.
I will say one bad thing about penguins though... they bloody stink, although they run very comically. |

Apparently they taste nice though.
Not seen any of this series. I used to love Attenborough although for some reason haven't watched much since "Life on Earth" and that was decades ago. I have no idea why - time probably.
Might have to set the V+ up and catch-up the rest as I have a couple of evenings in front of the TV planned with the volume up and all the doors shut whilst I try to prevent my dog from emptying its stomach at every firework. I might video him and send it in for Dave to consider for the next series. |

| The freeze frame sections at the end really make this series stand out and show you a human element to these program's and how much people sacrifice to film these things. This weeks was hillarious/worrying when they were told to take cover if they saw rising clouds but as they were the BBC, the decided to stay and film it. |

Haha, yeah I thought that bit was brilliant. And the clips of them beginning to go ever so slightly mad at the end of their months among penguins |

Have to agree with all the above regarding the BBC nature documentaries, absolutely world class
The thing that makes Attenborough so great is the fact he is just as interested in whatever he is talking about as the viewers are, he is an effortless presenter |
