You don't actually think that they were real Miss USA contestants do you Mini? It is what is commonly referred to as parody |

Its quite sad that beauty pagents tend to produce that level of ignorance in some of the participants. I guess when all those girls are told all day is how beautiful they are and that they need to look like this its easy to foget they need the brains behind the looks to go anywhere.
The UK is by no means immune to this kind of crap we participate in Miss World after all and the popularity of junk TV like TOWE and Geordie Shore don't make it easy for young girls especially to go out and be known for being smart and interesting rather than just a pretty face..
Not that I'm a raging feminist or anything I appreciate looking at pretty ladies but at the same time understand the looks are just one element of who she is and there is a person behind them .. |

my girlfriend once told a mum off in a supermarket.
the mum had a small girl who picked up a book in the book/magazine/comic aisle. the mum said to the girl, put the book back darling boys dont like clever girls.
Emily had to be practically dragged back down from the ceiling she was so livid! |

So?
Edit: This thread is the dumbest thing that's been posted to SCUK for a long long time... Of all the troubles in the world lately, this is what annoys people? Jeez... |

Mini, in all fairness I believe he has a point, but put across in a very crude way
Why would the woman in question care for the opinion of your girlfriend? With no disrespect to your partner as I don't even know her - Why does she think she's superior enough to lecture a complete stranger on how to live their lives
If someone did that to me I'd be a bit bemused and wondering why they expect me to care of their opinion
Reminds me of the old saying; "Everyone's entitled to my opinion"
And another point, if your girlfriend wanted to do a good thing for that little girl, rather than getting in a complete hissy fit over absolutely nothing, an awful example to the little girl who wanted the magazine, she could of just said to the little girl "Don't worry, lots of boys like smart girls" and walked off, far more effective and far more adult!
All that child saw that day was a complete stranger having a go at their mother for a reason unknown to her - I bet that made her feel really happy and safe... |

makes no difference if they cared or not. although i do believe that being part of a decent society we should be able to intervene if we see/hear something patently stupid. dont touch that fire!
the reason women have the vote is because enough women considered it important enough to campaign and force their oppinions on others, the reason women find it easier these days to progress up the career path than they did int he 60's is because women in the 60's campaigned for equality.
my gf is a career path girl, i think hearing someone drop back to the 50's struck a raw nerve with her.
anyway, thats all by the way, Thief didnt question my girlfriends motives or reasons, he accused either myself for retelling the story or her for telling me of being a liar.
i wonder how long thief will last this time before he gets banned. |

That's great that she's focused on having a career etc, it's good that women have equal rights thesedays etc, but it still doesn't justify what she did.
Do you not think the suggestion of just saying a polite one liner to the girl and walking off would of been a far better idea? The little girl must have been scared.
If you're going to intervene into someone's life as you believe your values and opinions will benefit them, at least set an example to the little girl and do it in an adult, respectable manner.
Nothing was achieved by what your girlfriend did, however I can completely see where she was coming from
Edit side note: You've also got to understand that not everyone has had the same education and upbringing as you've had, for hundreds of years women were told they can give their opinion only when their husband asked for it etc, only relatively recently has society changed, not everyone has. |
