Many moons ago, I remember when playstation one first came on the scene and coolboarders was one of the initial release games. I recently found a copy and started playing it... However technology has come on a bit nowerdays, which led to a few questions.
1. what is the most recent snowboard console game?
2. what is the best snowboard console game?
3. which console is better to play said game. xbox 360 or ps3? (please tick the poll at the top of the page)
feedback appreciated,
Thanks,
Ash |

| Agreed, 1080 was ace, Amped 1 was also top on the original xbox. I couldn't get into Amped 3,Shaun White or Stoked on the current gen for some reason. If I had to choose I would go with Stoked on an xbox360 with amped cheap off ebay, xbox1 games are backward compatible with the 360. |

I actually really liked Coolboarders 1 and 2 on the PS1, Amped and Amped 2 were the reasons I got an Xbox and switched away from the PS2. I did have Shaun Palmer snowboarding on the PS2 for a bit and it was ok, but not great...
I haven't played Shaun White, but I do have Amped 3 and Stoked, both of which I've played on for about 5 minutes each, cos they're just not fun to play.
I can remember playing 1080 every now and again, and it was fun, tho I always found the controls very difficult.
And with regards to original xbox games, I haven't been able to play mine on my 360 cos it says I need to do something to be able to play, so it doesn't seem that they're automatically backward compatible. |

ur pretty much guaranteed to get xbox v ps fanboy posts...
the most recent games (probably the latest is Stoked Big Air Edition - came out on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC) are pretty sh1t tbh. The last good one (in my opinion) was amped 3 on the 360 at its launch, but showing its age now.
There's a new SSX game coming out (on 360 and PS3) on Feb 14th and looks pretty decent - wait to next year to find out. The original couple games were v v good and loads of fun but then went poo - hopefully this is back to form, and atm looks it.
as to whether to go 360 or ps3 (assuming this is a post about which 1 to buy) - up to you. I honestly think 360 is better for games (especially online) and ps3 good for media with its blu ray capabilities. |

| I've got Shaun White on the 360 and it's kinda cool. I like the fact that if you play on Xbox Live everyone you see on the Mountain is a real person, but I still don't play it very much. I've got the Tony Hawks skateboard controller which is fun but I'm yet to try it with a snowboarding game. |

| I can't believe you're saying that Amped 3 was any good! That was the reason I bought and Xbox, and I was badly let down. I've found it barely playable! |

Top ranked recent games on YouTube seem to be amped 3, Shaun whites and stoked big air, I like the idea of stoked for free ride, but haven't tried any of these. Vancouver 2010? The boarding bit looked really good but the figure skating I'm not so sure..lacking zumba.
Used to own Shaun palmers pro boarder, had a great multi player where you would get points to reduce the size of your opponents split screen!
Never really got into the SSx series as was playing coolboarders, had a go and it seemed to have lots of drift with the board? I know it would of been fun had I got into it.
I might well be becoming an xboxer.
... Should have put best multiplayer in the questions. |

Amped 3 is mildly entertaining for about 20 minutes, or if you are with younger cousins who dont appreciate 'graphics' and just want an unrealistic colourful game to play around on (throw in some cheap scrumpy and the game actually gets a whole lot better )
Stoked was the biggest let down of a game i have ever played. Sure, the graphics/realism is there - its a neat idea coming from the Absinthe guys, but there is just no fun involved. The 'objectives' are totally balls. Nothing about the game makes me want to play it - total let down (glad i got it for next to nothing on eBay!)
Shaun White - for me - is the best by a country mile. Great graphics, wide variety of terrain and events to enter with a strange, but progressive story line. The whole 'seeking and obtaining' of the medals/markers was a really fun element - that would have been nearly impossible without being able to place a marker. Ive played this game on both ps3 and 360 (I own a 360) and i must say its a million times better on the chunkier xbox controller - its far easier to control the analogs, making trick selection super easy.
As for Shaun White on the Wii, the graphics were never going to be as good, but i must admit that its brilliant - i have the Road Trip game (the first in the Wii series) and its good fun for passing the odd 15-20 minutes but any longer than that and the faults in the control setup start to annoy. A neat concept that really should be developed.
I havent had the pleasure of trying Tony Hawk Ride (or whatever its called - the one where Louis Vito was on the advert) but im sure thats awesome, as you get to use the ps3/360 wireless snowboard/skateboard controller within the constantly good land of Tony Hawk games.
I think there is still a space for an EPIC game, as none of the current ones cover all the bases. Personally, id LOVE to see a game the with the sheer size of Just Cause but instead of being just in the mountains, you live the life of a big-time athlete. Choices of cities to live in - which goals/objectives within them - perhaps opening of skateparks, sponsor opportunies/goals, convincing people tasks (similar to SW:Skating?) but where you can choose to head to the beach to surf, or head to the airport to fly to canada/america/europe/japan/nz to get the latest freshies/enter a competition/be sent by your manager. - That would be a fun game - get to the top of the TTR rankings by touring around the world :')
That said, quite why one of the big developers hasnt combined its games to make a 'mega game' is beyond me - Combine (for example) control of sims, map size of Just Cause but give the player freedom to start street racing if they want - or go legit, let them go to an airport to fly to a ski resort and have that experience, get bored of that and train to become a soldier, complete certain missions and decide to become an F1 driver and compete in the championships, complete that and run a zoo - but do it all on a large scale - so each 'life option' is totally up to you, but you get a full games-length experience from each option. That said, it would fill more than one-CD and the save files would prbably fill the HDD, but if the game was as awesome as id like to imagine, they could sell it on a USB, and you could just have an independent HDD for it. Ubisoft, if you've read this, then i think i deserve to be an advisor with a claim to a percentage of the profits
(sorry this is a long post, i just love typing on my new macbook ) |

| I like the SSX series, but tbh they got worse with each one after tricky, pretty obviously just milking the market beyond that. Who knows what the latest one will be like. Hopefully better as it's been a while. |

yep SSX Tricky was the peak of the SSX machine and it was fun
loved Amped 2 seemed to capture snowboarding
played the demo for Amped 3 and hated it
Shaun white .... meh was ok but didn't seem as good as Amped 2 for some reason
lets put it this way, my old Xbox still gets powered on every week
and normaly its for me and my mates to crash cars in Burnout take down
or to play Amped 2 |

| You're missing the Wii: Balance Board + Family Ski & Snowboard or Shaun White = best snowboarding experience from a computer game. One of the only decent things about the Wii. The little snowboarding and skiing games on Wii Fit Plus aren't bad either, just need more courses. Mario and Sonic Winter Olympics with the balance board isn't great, but worth a look. |
