Do you think you're American when you make a statement and then think you've turned it in to a question by saying/typing the word "right" after it?

Eg... There's four of them right?

If you want to ask a question, then ask one... Don't try and be trendy and say it like yanks do

No I don't - especially when I read it if someone's written it down.

And anyway, it's all to do with the inflection of the voice - whether the tone of your voice goes up at the end of the sentence or not. Australians are more prone to this than Americans I'd say...

Does it really matter if someone uses Americanisms? Just ignore it when they say the offending words afterward right?

I noticed when I was living there that Canadians tend to ask something like:

"Do you think this is a nice colour, or no?"

"Have you seen so-and-so today, or no?"

"Do you like that, or no?"

It's a strange adding of 'no' to then end of the question, just incase you didn't know how to answer negatively!

That's like what the Germans do. They sometimes add "oder?" or "oder was?" (Or? Or what?) Oder was can be consider a little rude tho sometimes. I like adding both in.

I noticed a similar thing when I was at Uni where I knew loads of Northern Irish people. They would answer their own questions -

"Do you not like that colour, no?"

or

"Is that your favorite colour, yes?"

So should this thread be renamed "Do you think you're American/English/French/German/Irish/Canadian/Russian/Romainian/Czech/Polish/Spanish/Italian/Scottish/Australian?"

That Wikipedia link also made me realise that perhaps the English are one of the worst offenders!

"Oooooooh it's Lovely day today, isn't it?"
