The Mrs and I are gonna be in Glasgow on Nov 12th for RHCP, so I managed to persuade her to have a go at Braehead.
She says she doesn't want lessons, she just wants me to stay with her on the learner slope and she'll try and pick it up from watching me and the advice I give her, so probs 60-90 mins max.
From the time I've spent on the Braehead site, I don't think that will be possible as the way I read the site is that beginners have to take a lesson or they don't get on either slope?
I can kinda see the reasoning behind not allowing beginners on the main slope, but to not be allowed on the beginner slope unless she takes a lesson is bollocks.
Can anyone confirm if this is true? |

it's cos sno!zone would be held liable if she hurt herself or anyone else on any of the slopes.
you sign a waiver saying you're capable of being on the main slope safely.
otherwise you're with an instructor so you're "being watched" in case anything happens whilst you're out. |

| The beginners slope is only for people taking lessons from their instructors. To get on the main slope you have to prove you can stop, control speed etc...... Recreational standard. If she's never taken lessons or done it before she won't be at that standard. It's a business so quite reasonable to not expect other people to teach on their beginner slopes. |

she wont be allowed to do that.
all the domes have similar rules. no one should be teaching in there unless they are qualified isntructors and on the payroll.
if she cant achieve recreational standard ( link turns) she wont be allowed on the main slope at all. and the nursery slope is for organised lessons.
tell her if she wants to learn she will have to book onto a proper lesson there.
if your caught trying to teach her there's the chance you will be asked to leave as well.

an example i once heard was
go into a restaurant and see if you can teach someone to cook in their kitchen.
see how long before you got asked to go. |

| I've never signed any sort of waiver at Braehead. Was talking about that with mates i go with and none of us have ever been asked to do so. Does that mean that if we have an accident or injury we are quids in? |

The lessons on the day aren't suitable to our plans as the 3hr Level 1&2 is at 9.00am, so we'd need to leave home at 7.00am and the 90min Level 1 at 5.30pm would make us late for RHCP.
This was/is a one-off and we'll never be back at Braehead, so looks like my years of trying to persuade her and finally getting her to agree have been for fcuk all. |

| Leave her at the bar and have a shotty yourself. If their lessons don't fit your plans, tough sh1t, or get a cheap hotel, go down on the Friday and make the most of it, freestyle night for you that way and she can go for a lesson in the morning. |

I don't know what its like at Braehead, but at Cas and MK, and poss at Hemel too, I've been asked if I'm at that standard. I've never signed anything, but with that question, and signs up around the place I should think their covered. I would imagine the domes have cleverer legal people than you or I, so I prob wouldn't go getting injured on the off chance you might get rewarded! |

No chance....I hate the actual place and I never do jumps or park stuff when I'm on holiday as I've no interest in them.
Staying overnight on the Friday isn't an option.
Might try and get her to do an hour on the 5.30pm Level 1, then leave. |

Tbh leaving the level 1 an hr in she won't know if she likes it or not. Will only just be standing up scuffing down on an edge.
Also Dundee to braehead to be there for 8.45 latest, which is when you'll need to be there for a 9am lesson is a horrible journey. Would need to set off at 6.30 latest if your going the Perth way because Glasgow m8 is a stand still from 8 ish onwards.
I'd be writing this off if I was you and just go and enjoy the gig. |

Yeah, I know.
Might just wait and take her to Glenshee or if it's like last year, across the road to Lochee Park. |

At Hemel they have a disclaimer sheet at the check-in desk that you have to sign on every visit if you're buying a recreational pass, to confirm you can link turns etc.. |

| I taught my friend in camperdown. The hill just as you go in is a nice gentle hill. |

I can't believe I haven't thought of there. I grew up in Camperdown (the area), so that would be my local 'hill'....bugger of a walk back up she nails it to the bottom though !
The p1sser about this whole Braehead caper is that I've scrounged the hardware for the Mrs from about 4 different people, and they're gonna need it back. |
