| Sad news indeed, I was never a big moto gp fan, but the few times I did watch it, this guy was immense, I always wondered how he fit his hair in his helmet. Tragic news indeed, thoughts go out to his family and friends. |

Can only echo what's already been said. Massive loss of a potential future world champ and big character.
Sickening crash. One I wish I hadn't seen to be honest. |

Moto Gp has lost a future champion too early in his life and career , he was a charactor , something moto gp needs , as there are many fast riders , most of whom are boring and whinge , he will be missed by many who have followed him from his early days , and not just ppl who have latched onto him once he got into Moto GP .
This past 10 days , motor sport has lost to people who were specail in so many ways , and will be missed in ,many ways .

I'm not really a huge motoGP fan however hearing about the crash yesterday was very sad as he was an exciting rider and by all accounts a really nice bloke with it.
The last few days have been a sobering reminder for everyone that motorsports are inherantly dangerous and that we need to really appreciate the risk everyone involved takes each time they get out on track. |

| Unlike F1 and Indy car , there isnt huge amounts that can be done to make it any safer ...... as a driver and ex motocross racer , we all know the risks , but as 99% of us say and agree , when your number is up , there aint nothing we can do , how ever safe we do things or plan etc |

| I watched the Senna film the other day, hadn't seen it before, and seeing several of the crashes in there, it really makes it hit home the danger and speed these guys go. These days we don't see too many bad accidents thanks to the safety changes, I can't remember the name of the driver in one of the crashes shown but he was thrown clean from the cockpit, there is something very very un-nerving about seeing things like that. |

+1 to that. The rider will always be vulnerable due to being exposed. Short of sticking them in a massive, permanent airbag (and I mean MASSIVE, not the Dainese airbag system they are currently trying), these types of accidents will always happen, and even though every racer knows it's dangerous, it doesn't prepare you for when it happens.
That said, if you think about how many races take place a year and how many riders per race there are, Death or serious injury is still rare.
AntRants - Haven't seen the Senna film (I'm one of those who loved his talent and was one of my heroes, but didn't really like him!) but I imagine that it was Giles Villenueve. |

Absolutely regardless of who wins the races the main thing is that no one gets hurt or killed during them. In many ways we're very lucky these days that technology has made all forms of racing much safer compared to the past and that it is so rare people get seriously injured.
Not that all the extra safety and reduced risk compared to the old days makes any difference when someone dies its still very sad. |

I think it was probably Martin Donnely if I remember correctly. Very nasty accident that was... He was very lucky to survive - thrown out his car after it disintegrated still attached to his seat. |
